This week's column focuses on why the Timberwolves and the Grizzlies are high-value NBA picks on their respective road games on Friday. Read on to get the insider's picks on tonight's action.

Timberwolves vs. Wizards

Last week we cashed a ticket with our NBA pick on the Timberwolves as 1-point home underdogs against the Bucks. Minnesota won that game 116-99 but they have lost two straight since, including a tough 93-91 setback against the 76ers last Tuesday, which makes them even more dangerous in this visit to the Wizards.

The Timberwolves are just 11-24 on the season but that record doesn't reflect the level of talent that they have. The Wizards are 16-18 after losing their last two games and their struggling defense ranks 23rd in the NBA, giving up 106.2 points per game. They're not a good rebounding team either, pulling down just 41.9 boards per game (26th in the league), so they could be in trouble against Minnesota's Big Three of Towns, Wiggins and LaVine.

The Wizards are 4-7 ATS against Western Conference opponents while the Timberwolves are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against Eastern Conference teams. Washington has a big edge at point guard with John Wall and Minnesota is still trying to find a way to develop the ability to close out games, but they have way more depth and their loss in Philadelphia will make them come out fired up with something to prove. I'm taking the Timberwolves +5.

Grizzlies vs. Warriors

The Grizzlies are now 22-16 after back-to-back losses against the Lakers and the Clippers. Memphis has a poor offense that scores just 98.8 points per game (28th in the NBA) but they have the third-best defense in the league (allowing 98.6 points per game), which is one of the main reasons why they have a winning record. The Grizzlies just lost to the 13-25 Lakers and to a Clippers team that played without Chris Paul and Blake Griffin but I'm surprised that they're getting 14 points on the NBA odds board against the Warriors.

Golden State has won 11 of 12 and four in a row but they're just 1-5 ATS in their last six games. The Grizzlies, on the other hand, are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games against Western Conference opponents. Golden State's explosive offense is the best in the league, scoring 117.5 points per game and they're also the top passing team, dishing out 31.2 assists so the game could get ugly and the Warriors might win by double digits; however, their last five victories were by 10 points or less and four were by single digits. I like the Grizzlies +14 as one of my NBA picks.
