The Rockets and Pelicans should be one of the more entertaining games of Friday, and with it being the highest total of the night scoring should be plentiful. For my NBA Pick, I see the first half being the source for a good wager.

These two teams have played once this season back in early December, and the Rockets took care of business 130-123 in Houston. Not much has changed for either team other than health for Houston, and this game being in New Orleans should really help this Pelicans offense. They have been one of the best home offensive teams in the league this season. They own an offensive rating of 110.5 points per 100 possessions when at home, and in the first half it jumps to 112.1.

What’s even better about the first half total of 117½ is the Pelicans’ pace when they play at home in the first two quarters. They play at a pace of 105.4 in the first half, and if that continues against Houston, which is best in the league in road offensive rating in the first half, I love the 'over.'

In divisional games this season, Houston is averaging nearly 60 points per first half, and the Pelicans aren’t far behind, averaging 59 points per first half against divisional foes. The first time these two played, the first-half score was 78-76. Both teams have average to above average defenses, but in the end good offense trumps good defense. The defense might pick up in the second half, but I expect another high-scoring first half. While I doubt they both score 70-plus points in the first half tonight, low 60s is very possible.
