The Los Angeles Clippers are 15-5 and obviously a better team than the 7-12 New Orleans Pelicans as they meet Friday night in the Big Easy. Yet the Pelicans getting 5 points on NBA odds is just too tasty to pass up.

LA Clippers At New Orleans Pelicans

The Clippers enter tonight at the end of a lengthy 6-game road trip.  Thursday was clearly the highlight of it.  The Clippers played a near perfect game in defeating the defending NBA c Cleveland Cavaliers 113-94.  After starting the season 7-0 SU on the road, the Clippers had dropped 3 consecutive road games, including a double OT loss Tuesday night at lowly Brooklyn, before the bounce-back effort vs. the Cavs. Clippers HC Doc Rivers, who was fined $15,000 by the league for his verbal abuse of ref Ken Mauer on Tuesday, was on much better behavior Thursday. Winning will do that!  In the victory, the Clippers had an amazing 33 assists on 42 baskets.  Last year, the Clippers took 3 of 4 from New Orleans, but the series is clearly becoming more competitive.  After taking the Clippers to OT in LA last January, the Pels won the final matchup on this court (109-105) in March.

After struggling through an injury-plagued 2015-16 season, New Orleans began this year losing its first 8 contests on NBA picks.  But with superstar, Anthony Davis (32/11) leading the way, the Pels have responded by going 7-4 SU, including 5-0 at the Smoothie Center to even their record on that court to .500.  Of equal importance has been the return of point guard Jrue Holiday, who missed the first month due to personal issues.  With Holiday returning, the five home victories on this court have been over 11 PPG.  Davis credits the return of Holiday as changing the dynamics of the team.  Although another backcourt starter, Tyreke Evans (knee), has yet to make post, he could return next week.

Not only is this a great situational play, with the Clippers ending a lengthy road trip (plus off an upset of the champs) and the Pelicans now rounding into form, but there is also technical support as well.  In competitively priced games in the NBA, it is a better than 60% PLAY AGAINST to fade any team that comes off a SU road dog win.  The situation becomes even stronger (over 80%), if our PLAY ON team is at home and comes off a double-digit victory. With both the situation and the technical numbers favoring the Pelicans, we confidently line up with New Orleans plus the points.
