With our play of the day, we are going to focus in on the total in tonight's battle between the Washington Mystics and San Antonio Silver Stars.
The WNBA odds have the Mystics favored by seven points, while the total can be found at about 155.
For the record, Washington has gone 9-5 ATS, while the road team for tonight, San Antonio, has recorded a 6-8 ATS mark so far this season.
Washington Mystics Offense/Defense
The Mystics are pretty much middle-of-the-road when it comes to offensive statistics. They're ranked #6 in points per game at 78.3 and are #7 in rebounding (34.5) and #8 in assists (15.5)
Ivory Latta and Crystal Longhorne have been alternating as the team's top scorers thus far this season.
Latta, a guard known for her long-range shooting ability, struggled with her shot (3-of-11 FG) against San Antonio this past Friday, but she still is the squad's top overall scorer at 15.3 points per game. She's helping out in other ways too, averaging a team-best 4.1 assists a contest.
As for Longhorne, she's more of an inside presence that can dominate on the glass and also help out in the scoring department. She's been good for 14.0 PPG and 6.8 RPG through Washington's first 14 games.
Defensively, the Mystics haven't been too good. They're giving up 78.5 points per game, ranking them #9 in the WNBA.
San Antonio Silver Stars Offense/Defense
Though the Silver Stars are sharing the ball nicely (17.5 assists per game, #4 in the WNBA), they haven't been able to consistently score at a good level.
Through the first 14 games of the season, San Antonio has averaged 73.3 PPG, putting them #8 in the league. They're all the way down at #11 in rebounding too, hauling in 30.0 rebounds per contest.
The Silver Stars don't really have an inside scoring threat in the mold of Longhorne, but having a healthy Jayne Appel has helped out. She's averaging 7.7 rebounds through nine games heading into tonight.
When it comes to scoring, Jia Perkins, Danielle Adams, Danielle Robinson, and Shenie Johnson have been the go-to options, while DeLisha Milton-Jones has also had her moments. Perkins, though, can take over games when she's feeling it, which Washington knows about first hand.
Like the Mystics, San Antonio has endured through their fair share of defensive struggles. Having allowed 83.5 points per game, they need to elevate their pressure on that end of the court if they're to overcome Washington on the road.
Despite the line movement going the other way, we're thinking we'll see another high-scoring final score here, so let's add the OVER to our sports picks for the day.
Neither team is known for their defensive prowess, while there will be quite a few natural scorers on the court tonight.
Just Friday, we witnessed 156 points between these two squads, so let's stay with that theme again and roll with the OVER.
Pick: OVER 155
