The loss of DeMarcus Cousins is going to hurt this Kings team both in the micro-macro view of things, but tonight it might just kill their offense while improving their defense. That’s a recipe for a lower scoring game, even against a poor defense like the Nuggets.

  Denver Nuggets vs Sacramento Kings

Over my many seasons following NBA basketball, I can remember some lopsided trades. They are usually discovered as lopsided down the road, but the trade of DeMarcus Cousins should have all Kings fans burning their fan gear out in front of the brand new arena their tax dollars just paid for.

Using Cousins’ clash with the “culture,” and the need for a change in “culture,” is a fine excuse to make a trade. However, it’s no excuse to make a bad trade, especially when it’s your franchise player. Buddy Hield is not that good and even if he does turn into 20 points per game scorer, they Kings still got fleeced.

Tonight and for the rest of the season, that is going to be more evident that ever, especially for the Kings’ offense. They are going to really struggle on that end of the court, but there is also a chance their defense gets better without Cousins. Willie Cauley-Stein projects as a solid defender and without Cousins on the court this season, the Kings defense actually got better.

Combine all of that with the All Star Break sluggishness and I love the under here as well. There is a possibility that the Nuggets make a trade before the game to ship out one of their more talented players and that could open some room for a lower than expected score in this one. The Nuggets’ defense is terrible, but the Kings likely still won’t be able to score more than 105 points even against this bad defense.
