The seeding structure has been set up & while some of the higher seeds will be off today, the rest will be in action aiming to survive. Here are Las Vegas Summer League picks for Wednesday action.

Milwaukee Bucks vs. Houston Rockets
The Houston Rockets have been lighting it up in Summer League action and that’s one of the reasons they’ve finished with a decent record and earned a nice seed. This is actually a No. 9-No. 24 matchup as the Milwaukee Bucks have been struggling.

Starting with the Rockets, they’ve been winning because they’ve had no problems generating offense. In their last three games, they’ve scored at least 87 points in each of them while topping the century mark in two of them. One of the reasons they’ve been lighting it up has been the fact that they’ve been aggressive going to the hoop. They’ve been fouled a ridiculous number of times as they were 26-of-37 at the charity stripe on Friday, 38-of-48 on Sunday and 28-of-40 on Monday. That means they’re averaging just about 42 free throw attempts per game, which is incredible. In terms of just straight up scoring, they’ve had lots of players that have looked good but Glen Rice has been leading the way for the Rockets, scoring at least 20 points in each contest.

As for the Bucks, they’ve been quite sluggish in Summer League action. They’ve lost by double-digits in two of their last three games and the only other result was a seven-point loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs have not looked particularly strong in Summer League action.

This looks like a mismatch and I’m expecting the Rockets to continue to be aggressive at the offensive end and to have no problem running away with this contest.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Chicago Bulls
Both the Cavaliers and the Bulls haven’t looked great in Summer League as this will be a matchup of the No. 17 and No. 16 seeds. The Cavs are slightly ahead but they haven’t looked particularly strong. They lost to the Brooklyn Nets in a game where the Nets handed them 21 turnovers. They also lost to the Golden State Warriors 83-75 in a game where they scored 17 points or less in three of the four quarters. Their lone win was a triumph over the Bucks, who are not a very good team themselves. As mentioned, the Bucks are the No. 24 seed in the Vegas tournament.

As for the Bulls, they’ve also lost two of their three games with one of the losses also being a one-point defeat at the hands of the Nets. However, the Nets played much better against the Bulls as they only had seven turnovers. And the Bulls other loss in Summer League was to the Toronto Raptors, who have proven to be one of the better teams in Vegas (they’re the No. 1 seed).

I like the makeup of this Bulls Summer League team with Doug McDermott as the key cog with Bobby Portis serving as his wingman. I’ll look for them to take care of business against the Cavaliers in this spot and move on.
