The Washington Wizards have been struggling lately but tonight they have a chance to get back on track as they take on the Detroit Pistons. Will they be able to pull it off? See my NBA picks here.

Detroit Pistons vs. Washington Wizards
NBA odds makers have made Detroit a +1.5 underdog like at Pinnacle Sports -105. For one of my NBA picks today I will back Detroit and look for them to play a much better game than they did the last time in Washington. Overall I think they are the better team.

Detroit Pistons
Detroit is holding on to the eighth slot in the East at this moment and they have won seven of their last 10 basketball games. I have not been shy this year when talking about Stan van Gundy and how good of a basketball coach he is for Detroit. This will be a tough spot for them but I think they're catching Washington in a really tough slump as well. On the season Detroit ranks first in the NBA averaging 56.6 rebounds per game thanks to Andre Drummond.

However, they average is 65.3% at the charity stripe which ranks last in the NBA, also thanks to Drummond. If they can get up-tempo like they like to with their 86.9 field-goal attempts per game they will have a really good chance to win tonight. Washington has been good in limiting that type of pace but Detroit should be able to take advantage of some matchups. The last time out Washington they shot only 42% from the floor and 32% from distance but with the way Washington has been playing defense recently I expect the Pistons to have a lot more shots drop tonight.

Washington Wizards
Washington has lost their last five games in a row and in that stretch have allowed opponents to average over 110 points per game. This has been the main issue with Washington, simply the fact they do not play well on the defensive end. Washington ranks 26th, 28th, and 29th in opponent shooting percentage, opponent shooting efficiency, and opponent three point shooting percentage respectively. There is really not one defensive statistic that you can point to on this team that shows any sort of a positive sign. Offensively they are good but not great, and definitely not good enough to overcome their poor defensive play.

Another issue of course is the status of Bradley Beal and as of writing this his status is questionable. Still, he has been out the last three games so even if he plays tonight I'm not sure how many minutes he will get or how effective he will be. No matter the case I think Washington has a better than good chance to continue their losing streak.
