Pelicans are NBA odds road dog on Saturday, for the first of a 7-game series against Warriors who will be eager to ascend further than their 1st Round playoff loss to the Clippers last season.

New Orleans Pelicans vs. Golden St. Warriors (-11) 3:30 ET ABC TV
New Orleans travels to Golden St. on Saturday, April 18th for the first of a 7-game series against the Golden St. Warriors.  The game begins at 3:30 ET as televised by ABC.  This game features a playoff virgin in the person of New Orleans, who was just 34-48 SU last season.

New Orleans is one of the “feel good” stories in the NBA this season. On March 25th, they were 3 games from the promised playoff land with 11 games to go!  But, they finished with an 8-3 SU surge, capped off by the 108-103 victory vs. San Antonio on Wednesday night. They are led by emerging interior force, Anthony Davis. But, they are far from a one-man team, as they feature an experienced player in Asik, alongside Davis upfront.  In the backcourt, there are 3 quality players in Holiday, Evans and Gordon.   Anyone who watched the New Orleans celebration, Wednesday night, knows this is a prime example of gravity … what goes up, must come down!  Wednesday’s “win and in” victory on their home court was followed by a celebration akin to winning the NBA Championship. Current Pelicans HC, Monte Williams, was both a player and Assistant under long-term Spurs’ mentor, Popovich. It was an emotional victory for all involved.  For that reason alone, this opening game visit to Golden St. will be a serious challenge.  And, don’t think Golden St. will take them lightly, because New Orleans was the most recent team to defeat the Warriors (103-100) on April 7th.

After that loss to New Orleans, Golden St. righted the ship to finish the regular season in style with victories in their final 4 regular season home games. Despite that loss in New Orleans, the Warriors took this regular season series by a count of 3 games to 1.  That included wins on this court by counts of 112-96 and 112-85 (admittedly, Davis played in neither of those games for the Pelicans).  Yet, those home wins were a microcosm of the Golden St. success this season. Even with a 0-3 ATS finish as home chalk, the Warriors were still 26-12 ATS as home favorite on NBA betting odds this season. Lest you think that Golden St. is a “run and gun” team, who excels only on the offensive end of the court, consider that they had the league’s No. 1 field goal percentage defense at 42.8%.  That is not to discount the offensive fireworks which saw them lead the league by shooting 47.8% from the field, 39.8% from the arc and dish out a league-leading 27.4 assists.  Their home success is further represented by the fact that in going 39-2 SU on this floor, they outscored the opposition by an average of 113-98.  The Warriors are more than just the “splash brothers,” Curry and Thompson. There is play on the interior from 5 quality players in Bogut, Green, Lee, Barnes and Iguodala.

Considering the probable letdown by New Orleans following their “win and in” victory, the fact New Orleans is a playoff virgin, the Warriors’ knowledge that their last defeat came at the hands of this team, and their incredible record on this floor, there is a very high percentage chance that Golden St. cruises to an easy double digit victory in this contest so add Golden State to your 1st. round playoffs NBA picks.
