Phoenix Suns (17-35) at Los Angeles Lakers (24-28)
The Phoenix Suns have been very good to bettors this season, and if you know where to look, there is always great NBA betting value to be found in their games.
I their last game, the Thunder blasted them out of the building, 97-69. It was as close as to automatic money as you can get, as the Suns played the Thunder in a home at home and were blown out in both. Simply put, Phoenix is a terrible basketball team. You could give me 20 points with the Suns in a game and I couldn’t feel completely confident.
The NBA odds makers have opened Los Angeles as a 9 point betting favorite in this game. I actually think that this is sort of low considering the competitive game that the Lakers played in a 107-97 loss to the Eastern Conference leading Heat.
L.A. has their own problems as well, and they are struggling to put things together. The Lakers show flashes of brilliance, but they must find a way to remain consistent if they want to have any chance of sneaking into the Western Conference playoff picture.
A Seasonal Soap Opera
Now, we hear that Dwight Howard’s father is getting involved in the action and blaming coach Mike D’antoni for not speaking up about Kobe Bryant’s comments about Dwight Howard playing through pain. This team, including Kobe, doesn’t know how to shut up and play ball. Much like the NFL’s New York Jets, this team is a media circus, and the drama that they bring upon themselves rarely provides any positive effects.
The problem is evident. Dwight Howard has never been a 2nd or 3rd option and won’t be a 1st option on this team. Kobe Bryant has won 5 NBA titles, and he feels that this team is his to run how he sees fit. This will be the case until he decides to retire, and this is going to cause more problems in the future.
The play of Earl Clark has really gone unnoticed. In his last 5 games, Clark has averaged 14.2 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. Clark is a major contributor and Los Angeles will need him throughout the rest of the season. He’s also a fantasy league underpriced “gem”.
This is a game where Los Angeles should be able to take out some of their frustrations. The Suns defense is awful and look for Los Angeles to have their way with Phoenix.
NBA Pick – Lakers -9 at 5 Dimes
Denver Nuggets (33-19) at Toronto Raptors (19-32)
Denver has been playing exceptional basketball. They had a 9 game winning streak leading up to their last game as Boston was able to break the streak in triple overtime, 118-114. Boston was on a streak of their own, at home and, there was no shame in Denver’s game.
Bet Online is the only sportsbook to have betting odds out for this game as of yet. They list Denver as a 2 point betting favorite. We find out that Andre Iguodala is listed as a game-time decision with a neck injury, but is expected to play. Andrea Bargnani is also a game-time decision as he’s been sidelined with the flu.
Steal of a Deal!
How could Toronto not be happy with the acquisition of Rudy Gay? Memphis got rid of him strictly for financial reasons and the Raptors pick up a legitimate offensive force in return . The Raptors made out like bandits in this deal. Most players don’t like to play in Canada and it remains to be seen if Gay stay’s there.
Toronto is on a two game winning streak and Rudy Gay has upped his game. In his last 5 games, Gay has averaged 23.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3 steals per game. This is a player that can play both ends of the court and along with Lowry, DeRozan, and Johnson, this team is starting to make some waves. Is it enough against the spirited play of Danilo Gallinari and Kenneth Faried?
As much as I love the way that Rudy Gay is playing, I need to see Denver get beaten up before I pick against them. They took Boston to the limit on the road and almost won 10 straight games.
