The New Orleans Pelicans visit the San Antonio Spurs in this Western Conference matchup. Earlier this year, New Orleans upset San Antonio (104-90) in New Orleans. Who will be our NBA pick?

For that reason, among others, I expect huge focus from San Antonio for this contest.

Betting Preview
There was plenty of optimism in New Orleans, when Alvin Gentry brought his “run and gun” NBA game from the Bay Area to the Big Easy for the 2015-16 season. Multiple injuries to open the season resulted in a 0-6 SU ATS start for the Pelicans, before they finally stabilized themselves in mid-November. But, injuries have continued to plague the Pelicans throughout the season, leaving them as an underachieving crew. Currently, they are playing without Evans and Gordon, a pair of high-scoring perimeter players, who bring a lot to the table. As a result, New Orleans continues to flounder in the Western Conference with a record of 18-29 SU, good for just 12th place in the Western Conference Playoff queue. The 5-18 SU road record lends little confidence to a 2nd half surge, nor does a defense that is allowing 105 PPG (in the bottom 20% of the NBA).

At the other end of the spectrum is the San Antonio Spurs, who continue to chase Golden St. for the best record in basketball with a 40-8 SU mark. Big man, Tim Duncan, will again miss this contest tonight with his ailing knees. But, his absence has done little to hinder the success of this very deep, talented and chemistry rich San Antonio team led by HC Popovich, whose experience allows him to navigate the rigorous 6 month NBA wars with relative ease. Most impressive, is the intensity that the Spurs bring to the table each night. Seldom is there a letdown and when they do underperform, they bounce back immediately. Some may be familiar with their 7-1 ATS record following a loss. But, did you also know that the Spurs are a lofty 13-3 ATS following a spread loss. Such occurred in their previous game, two nights ago when they failed to cover the 16 point impost on this floor with a (107-92) victory against lowly Orlando, a team against whom, they figured to have little interest. Based on previous results between these two, there would figure to be far more focus for the Spurs tonight. For that reason alone, it is most probable that the Spurs continue their pointspread success that has seen them go 18-8 ATS on this floor and 28-11 ATS when favored by 6 or more points in an NBA game this season. Outscoring the opposition by an average of 106-90 on this floor, tells us that just an average performance by San Antonio would get the money for us in this matchup tonight.

I invite you to put the NBA odds in your favor and join me in my NBA pick on the San Antonio Spurs this evening.
