Of all the games that feature a team currently in the playoffs against a team on the outside looking in, this is the most interesting of all of them tonight. The Blazers come into this game as -2 road NBA Odds favorites, and even though they have been tanking ATS recently compared to the beginning of the season, the Knicks don’t exactly give me a lot of confidence tonight either. However the NBA Odds for the total at 207 points looks ripe with value, and I am ready to pick it.

Northwest nosedive

Although the Blazers have lost five of their last eight games SU, their position in the standings hasn’t been affected too much. However they haven’t continued to be undervalued as they were in 2013. Their loss at Washington a few nights ago was a big sign that they are slowing down and probably getting tired in the dog days right before the All Star Break. However tonight against the Knicks, they could turn things around. It’s just not a wager I would recommend, though.

However these two team’s defense recently is cause for the total to be in play. The Blazers already give up a ton of points on the road this season, and even though the Knicks have been in a mini scoring slump over their last two games, a fast paced game like this is just what they need to get Carmelo Anthony, and the rest of the offense going.

There should be an above average amount of three pointers in this game, as well as the potential for plenty of turnovers. Although turnovers don’t help or hurt us too much, they could lead to more fast breaks, which will only help a wager on the over.

The Sharp Pick

The Blazers are only 1-7 ATS in their last eight games, but the Knicks could very easily be the ones overvalued here tonight. This is why the spread is a no go for me. As tempting as a home underdog of +2 on the NBA odds board looks tonight against the slumping Blazers, Portland is still the more talented team, and facing the Knicks might be exactly what they need to break out of their bad ATS slump.

The total is much safer, as both these teams cash the over well in their positions. The Knicks have cashed the over in 62% of their home games this season, while the Blazers have cashed the over in 14 of their last 21 road games. The Knicks’ defense will be no match for the Blazers, and even though I think Tyson Chandler will do well guarding Aldridge, the rest of the Blazers are a mismatch for the Knicks defensively.

However a lot of teams have been bad matchups for the Knicks recently. New York has cashed the over in six of their last seven games, and five of their last six road games. After that nice streak back to end January, the Knicks are back to their old tricks after losing to Milwaukee two nights ago. However even though they won’t stop the Blazers, New York should be able to score. On the road this season, the Blazers have given up an average of 105 points per game.
