NBA Odds: PK/Raptors-1, O/U: 186.5
Rudy Gay will face off against his former team for the first time tonight, with both Toronto and Memphis playing good ball at the moment.
It's fair to say the trade has worked out just fine for each team thus far. The Raptors have won five straight games and can thank Gay for numerous big shots he's knocked down during the stretch. As for the Grizzlies, they've reeled off four consecutive wins, as it looks like they've settled on the right rotation.
Toronto may still be 10 games under .500, but they've gone 6-2 SU since acquiring Gay. It's not as if they've been beating up on bad teams either, as the Raptors have managed wins over Indiana, Denver, New York and the L.A. Clippers during that stretch.
We know Memphis is about as good as they come defensively, but this seems to be a good matchup for Toronto. They have a lot of athletic ability on the perimeter with Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan (who's been much more aggressive since the trade) and that should serve them well against Mike Conley and Tony Allen. Then of course there's Gay up against Tayshaun Prince, and while Prince has good length, we think he's going to have a hard time keeping up with the much more explosive Gay.
Amir Johnson and Jonas Valanciunas did a nice job defensively on Nene and Emeka Okafor last night and will have to be even more physical and disciplined against the Randolph/Gasol duo tonight. If they can limit the damage inside defensively and avoid too much isolation on the offensive end, we think Toronto has an excellent shot of winning this game.
The Raptors are a profitable 15-12 ATS on their home floor this season. We will be selecting them to win straight up against a strong Western Conference contender in Memphis. As always, good luck with your NBA picks tonight!
