San Antonio Spurs
Spurs backers were left horrified last night as the team blew it at home against a Miami team that was without LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Mario Chalmers.
With all the injuries, San Antonio entered the game as nine-point favorites, but ended up losing straight up on a late Chris Bosh three.
Tony Parker and Danny Green both shot 4-of-14 from the field, with the former finishing with 12 points, eight assists, and five rebounds. Both Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard had double-doubles, but it wasn't enough against a shorthanded yet motivated Heat squad.
The Spurs must forget about what transpired in a hurry, as they now tangle with another exceptional team in Memphis. Coming in, San Antonio has gone 2-5 ATS over their previous seven contests on the road.
You'd also have to go back to March 20th to find the last time the Spurs were able to cash against the spread. They're 0-5 ATS over their last five and 1-8 ATS in their past nine.
According to the Grizzlies' high standards, they've been in a little bit of a rut over the last 10 days or so. They're 3-3 SU and 2-4 ATS over their last six games.
That being said, Memphis has done just fine in their latest two games, beating Houston 103-94 at home before topping the Timberwolves by 13 in Minnesota. Lionel Hollins' squad covered in both wins.
A big fourth quarter, in which the Grizzlies outscored Minnesota 34-19, keyed the win versus Minnesota. Memphis shot 50.7 percent overall and made 6-of-10 from beyond the arc, while forcing 17 Timberwolves turnovers.
Individually, Marc Gasol was a man on a mission. He posted team-highs in points (21) and rebounds (8) and also dished out six assists and blocked four shots. Darrell Arthur's 15 points (6-of-9 FG) off the bench were crucial too.
Like San Antonio, the Grizzlies have not been getting the job done in the ATS world recently, but they will be going for their third straight cashed ticket tonight. Can they follow through for their backers?
These Western Conference powers are quite familiar with one another, having met three times already this season. San Antonio holds the 2-1 edge, though Memphis has covered the spread in two of the matchups.
That said, with our NBA picks tonight we are going to focus on a play on the OVER.
The Grizzlies are typically known for their stellar defense, but lately they haven't been good at all in that respect. They're allowing 100.2 PPG over their last five, way higher than their season average of 90.0 PPG, leading to a 4-1 mark for the OVER in that span.
In short, we expect San Antonio to give Memphis a good battle and we're liking the chances of this game creeping over this relatively low total.Free NBA Pick: OVER 186.5 at Bookmaker
