For the last 4years, the NBA odds for the Southeast division have really been about who is finishing 2nd because of the Heat, but now it might be the best division for futures NBA Picks.
Washington Wizards (+125)
Now that the Heat are broken up, the Wizards have emerged as the favorites to win this division. Even though they’ll be without Bradley Beal for the first 10-12 games of the season, this team is deep and has a ton of weapons. On top of that, they are one of the better defensive teams in the East. If their plethora of big men can stay healthy throughout the season, Washington may be the 3rd best team in the East right now. However if the early trend of injuries continues, the Wizards may be an overvalued NBA pick.
Miami Heat (+300)
Even after losing Lebron James, the Heat brought back everyone else, plus Luol Deng and some nice draft picks. While they are tied with the Hornets for second in the NBA Odds this offseason, they are fully capable of beating out the Wizards and winning this division. If Dwyane Wade can play consistently on the nights he does play, and Chris Bosh can turn back into Toronto Bosh, this team may have a shot at this division, but I don’t know if +300 is the number you’re looking for.
Charlotte Hornets (+300 at BWin)
Charlotte may be the most intriguing Southeastern team. With NBA odds of +300, and a ton of young talent, the sky may be the limit. If anyone could jump above the Heat and Wizards, the Hornets are it. With the addition of Lance Stephenson, it may give this team the piece they were missing. Kemba Walker is still getting better, and with both of them taking pressure off of Al Jefferson, the Hornets may be the best NBA Odds value in this division.
Atlanta Hawks (+600)
The one key for the Hornets to compete in this division is Al Horford. If he can come back and stay healthy for a full season, the Hawks are going to be in the mix with the three teams above. Paul Millsap and Horford will be a great frontcourt duo in the Eastern Conference, and along with a budding Jeff Teague, the Hawks are a playoff team in the East. They brought back Mike Scott and Elton Brand, along with the #15 pick in the draft, Adreian Payne. However they are still a first round out.
Orlando Magic (+5000)
Bovada has the Magic as the only team without a shot to win this division, and now with the news that Victor Oladipo will be out for some extended time, their prospects get even worse. Oladipo was set to lead this team this year with Jameer Nelson now in Dallas, however now the young, Elfrid Payton will have to take the lead at the guard spot. I do like them re-signing Nikola Vucevic. He will now have to carry a much bigger load with Oladipo out, and he’ll likely be the focal point of the offense. However even though they don’t have to deal with the Heat being the best team in the league any more, they have a long way to go before they are playoff contenders.
