The Jazz own a 3-game losing streak, but they keep games close as underdogs and are 4-1 against the NBA odds over their last 5 outings. The Jazz will go off as road dogs Sunday night at Atlanta.
Jazz-Hawks Betting Odds
Most of Sunday's NBA odds market opened Atlanta at around -6 over Utah, with a total of 193. In the early betting most of the market dropped the Hawks to -4, and the total to 192.
After a quick 7-1 start to this season Atlanta (8-3, 5-5-1) has lost two of its last three games, including a 106-93 defeat at Boston Friday night. That game was tied at 45 at the half, before the Celtics pulled away for a 15-point lead early in the fourth quarter. The Hawks then rallied to within three with three minutes to go, but got outscored from there 10-0.
On the night Atlanta shot 47 percent from the floor, and held Boston to 41 percent, but got outrebounded 60-47 and turned the ball over 17 times.
Wednesday night the Hawks won at shorthanded New Orleans 106-98, but couldn't cover at -13. Just before that they lost at Minnesota 117-107, going down outright as eight-point chalk.
Atlanta is playing for the moment without head coach Mike Budenholzer, who's away from the team dealing with a family situation.
Utah (4-5 SU, 6-3 ATS) is 0-3 to begin its current five-game road trip, losing 118-114 at Cleveland Tuesday night, 92-91 at Miami Thursday and 102-93 at Orlando Friday. The Jazz, playing their third game in four nights, trailed the Magic by 18 points right out of the gate and by 23 midway through the fourth, got within seven with about a minute to go but never really had a chance, after the slow start. On the night Utah shot just 39 percent from the field and committed 17 turnovers, losing that game outright as a two-point favorite.
Jazz-Hawks Recent History
Atlanta has beaten Utah eight times in a row, including a sweep of two meetings last season. But both those games were close; the Hawks won 100-97 at home and 98-92 in Salt Lake City. Atlanta shot 46 percent from the floor in those two games combined, the Jazz 44 percent.
Also, those games played UNDER totals of 198 and 195.
Jazz-Hawks Totals Trends
Utah is 6-3 on the UNDERS this season, as Jazz games have averaged a league-low 187 points.
Atlanta is 6-5 on the UNDERS, as Hawks games have averaged 204 points.
Utah might be down two starters for this game, as G Rodney Hood (12 PPG) and C Rudy Gobert (nine PPG, 12 RPG) have both missed recent action, and are listed as questionable for Sunday.
On the other side of the scorers' table Atlanta G Jeff Teague turned an ankle the other night, and is also questionable for Sunday.
Jazz-Hawks Free NBA Picks
Neither team has looked very good this week, but Atlanta is the better team, and Utah is a little banged up. We like the Hawks, the home team at a relatively short spread. Also, we could see this game turning into a grinder, so we're thinking UNDER.
