The Pelicans have underachieved this year in my opinion but there still is a long way to go this season. Today they take on the Pacers and odds makers have made Anthony Davis and Company a small home favorite. Can New Orleans pickup a solid home win?

Indiana Pacers

Indiana comes in averaging 105.2 points per game but allowing 107.1 which ranks them 11th and 24th in the NBA respectively. Head coach Nate McMillan has righted the ship as they started out the gates struggling just a little bit but are starting to look like a tough team in the East. Offensively they have been clicking at a pretty decent rate shooting 45.8% from the field and 37.1% from distance ranking them ninth and seventh in the NBA respectively.

However, on the other side of the ball, they have been less than stellar allowing opponents to shoot 50.5% on their two-point shots along with ranking 18th and 21st in opponent effective field-goal percentage and efficiency respectively. This team is really talented but coming off a back to back could be a bit too much tonight against a New Orleans team that is better than their overall record in my opinion. This is an Indiana team that likes to get up and down the floor but I think this will play more into the hands of the Pelicans as they like to run as well.

New Orleans Pelicans

New Orleans is coming off a heartbreaking loss to Golden State in which they took the Warriors to the wire. They have lost six out of their last seven games but I like the makeup of this team. They catch Indiana in a good spot tonight coming off the back to back and they should play with a lot of confidence considering they took the league’s best team to the final few minutes. We know with head coach Alvin Gentry we are going to get a New Orleans team that likes to get up and down the floor as they average 86.8 attempts per game which ranks 10th in the league.

They also move the ball really well ranking eighth in the league and assist, but offensively the issue is they have not been very efficient shooting just 44% overall. Surprisingly on the other side of the ball they’ve actually played some pretty decent defense ranking 14th and 15th in opponent overall shooting percentage and efficiency. If they get the same contribution from their bench like they did against Golden State they should win this game by close to double digits.

Indiana Pacers vs New Orleans Pelicans

Oddsmakers have made New Orleans a -2.5 favorite across the board. For my NBA pick, I’m going to back them in this spot against an Indiana team in which I think they match up very well.
