Over the past couple of weeks, the Pelicans have been playing some pretty good basketball winning six out of their last 10 contests. Today they travel to take on Oklahoma City to face the Thunders and expert capper brings you the most valuable NBA pick.

New Orleans Pelicans

New Orleans is averaging 102.5 points per game while allowing 105.4 points which ranks them 22nd and 18th in the NBA respectively. Surprisingly, although their defensive numbers are not great, they are playing a lot better defense than last season ranking close to the top 10 in some important defensive categories. Currently, New Orleans is allowing opponents to shoot just 44.2% from the floor which ranks them 10th in the league as well as ranking 12th in both opponents two and three points shooting percentage. They still are far from an elite type of defense but they have shown surprising improvement this season.

On the other side of the ball led by Anthony Davis this a New Orleans team that can put up points in a hurry and has been decently efficient the season. The Pelicans  do a lot of their damage from the paint extended and are averaging 49.8% on their two-point shots which rank them 11th in the NBA. This matches up well with an OKC team that allows 48.8 points in the paint which rank them 28th in the league. This a team that I think matches up pretty well with Oklahoma City and should keep this game close from beginning to end.

 Oklahoma City Thunder

Oklahoma City is averaging 108 points per game which rank them seventh in the NBA. I could go on ad infinitum about Russell Westbrook and his propensity to get a triple-double every single night but this team actually has some decent balance across the board. Offensively they have been clicking fine ranking in the top 10 in most categories like eighth, ninth, and 10th in overall shooting percentage, shooting efficiency, and effective field-goal percentage respectively.

That makes me want to fade them tonight as they are allowing 105.8 points per game which rank 19th in the NBA. As well, they're allowing opponents to get up a lot of shots at 88.5 attempts per game, as well as having them knock them down at 39.7 per contest both which rank 23rd in the NBA. Oklahoma City is streaking right now but despite a tough loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, this is a New Orleans team that is starting to get healthy and could give them trouble tonight. Expect for this game to go down to the wire.

New Orleans Pelicans vs Oklahoma City Thunder

Oddsmakers have made New Orleans a +5.5 underdog across the board. For my NBA pick I will take Anthony Davis and New Orleans in this spot as I like how they matchup with Oklahoma City. The Thunder should win this game but don't be surprised if it comes down to the final shot.
