The Memphis Grizzlies have won four games in a row and tonight they visit another team with a winning record, the Charlotte Hornets. Oddsmakers have come out making Charlotte a decent home favorite but can they stop the surging Grizzlies from winning another.

Memphis Grizzlies

Memphis is averaging 96.8 points per game and allowing 97 points per game which rank them 26th and fourth in the league respectively. It seems over the last four games they have righted the ship and are now starting to look similar to the Memphis teams we have seen in the past. By controlling tempo and playing suffocating defense Memphis might be starting to come together under new head coach David Fizdale.

Although they have been playing a lot better though on closer look in their most recent four-game stretch the only one that really stands out is the road game at the Clippers. In that matchup, Memphis shot out of their minds shooting 49% and almost 58% from distance, well below their 42.3% and 33.3% average on the season respectively. That happens sometimes in the NBA, sometimes everything just goes your way and all the shots drop. Tonight though I have a hard time believing they can come in and beat a well coached Charlotte team that is also playing well this season looking like a possible sleeper in the East.

Charlotte Hornets

Charlotte is averaging 105.9 points per game while allowing 101.2 points per game and average making almost 11 three-pointers per contest which ranks them fifth in the league. Head coach Steve Clifford has done a nice job with this club and Kemba Walker is starting to come into his own as one of the premier players in the NBA. Although they have not been shooting well as an overall average, from distance they have been solid as they like putting up the three averaging 30.4 attempts per contest which rank them fifth in the league, and they knocked down 35.6% of those which ranks them eighth.

On the other side of the ball although they have allowed teams to get up plenty of attempts they have been good at keeping the percentages low with opponents shooting just 43.3% from the field which ranks Charlotte fifth in the league. They also rank fifth in opponents three point percent shooting from the field, as well as eighth and ninth in opponent shooting efficiency and effective field-goal percentage. This is a well-coached team that plays hard on both sides of the ball and I expect for them to come out and put an end to the Grizzlies short winning streak handily.

Memphis Grizzlies vs Charlotte Hornets

Oddsmakers have made Charlotte a -5.5 favorite across the board. For my NBA pick, I'm going to back the Hornets in this spot as I think Memphis will have trouble keeping up. Lay the points.
