The New York Knicks have to face the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night. Our handicapper shows us the most profitable NBA odds for our sports picks.

Fresh off of a 27 point beating of the Utah Jazz, the New York Knicks believe that they still have a chance to make the playoffs. The Knicks are on a 2 game winning streak and currently 4.5 games out of a playoff spot. In their way tonight is Kyrie Irving and the Cleveland Cavaliers. New York must keep the momentum going tonight.

Tip-off is scheduled for tonight at 7:30 pm ET at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. This game can be seen on the MSG Network.

The Cavs are a 2.5 point betting favorite on the NBA odds board and the total for the game is 198.5. Cleveland is the slight favorite at home due to home court advantage, but clearly this is a game that the Knicks can win if they played like they did the last two games.

Anthony+ Chandler+Smith = A Win

We already know what Carmelo Anthony has done for this team but it’s become quite apparent that if Tyson Chandler can provide a double-double and J.R. Smith is efficient from the outside, the Knicks can win basketball games like last season.

Chandler has been on a tear as of late, averaging 10.6 points and 15.4 rebounds in his last 5 ball games. His production could even be greater but the Knicks have been winning big lately and Chandler has been able to sit when the games have been in hand.

J.R. Smith has finally started to behave in a mature fashion and head coach Mike Woodson, knows that he needs Smith in order to keep his job.

In his last 5 games, Smith has averaged 15.4 points per game. What it comes down to is that Carmelo Anthony needs the pressure taken off of him and is able to get a bit of rest. Other players like Amare Stoudemire have also played well and this type of support is what New York has been missing all season long. A game like this is a must win situation and getting 2.5 points against a sub-par team such as the Cavs is a luxury for the bettor.

A One-Man Show

Cleveland is actually one game ahead of New York in the Eastern Conference Playoff race, but they’ve clearly shown that they want nothing to do with the post-season. Kyrie Irving has carried this team and while the Cavaliers have backed up the center position well with the acquisition of Spencer Hawes, Luol Deng hasn’t proven to be the force that he was with the Chicago Bulls.

Deng is a career 16 point per game scorer but his production and shooting efficiency, and his overall reliability has went down since joining Cleveland. He’s averaging just 13.6 points per game in his last 5 games. This is a player that excels on a good team that has good chemistry. The Cavaliers are a team that relies heavily on Kyrie Irving.

The Cavaliers are coming off of a 101-92 loss to a lousy Charlotte Bobcats team. They appear to be headed in a downward direction at a rapid pace.

Outcome

New York has looked like the New York of old in its last two games and Cleveland seems to have thrown in the towel. If the Knicks can keep their primary core of Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler, and J.R. Smith playing efficiently, they should be able to beat Cleveland on the road for our NBA picks and keep their flickering playoff hopes alive.
