Memphis heads into New York tonight to play the Knicks, and the NBA Odds are slightly disputed in this seemingly close game. Some shops have the Grizzlies as one point favorites, while other have New York. I’m staying away from the spread, and focusing more on the total, which sits at a low 184 ½.
The Knicks had to play last night in Boston and then they made the short trip home after getting the big win. The Knicks are 10-6 cashing the over on the second night of a back to back, and I think it will happen once again tonight.
In the two games without Marc Gasol in the lineup, the Grizzlies have given up 106 and 107 points in those two games. Tyson Chandler will also likely be a game time decision tonight, and if he sits as well, this total should fly over. With smaller lineups possible, the over is definitely the play. Smaller lineups lead to a faster paced game, which of course leads to more points.
The last ten meetings between these two, the average score was 108-108, so these two tend to be able to score on one another. The Knicks have averages over 101 points per game scored in their last five games, and since they got Carmelo Anthony back in the lineup, things have been going a lot smoother on offense.
All this game would have to do is go into the low to mid 90s in score, which would easily cash the over in this very low total. With both defensive minded big men possibly out for both teams, the over is my play that I’m adding to my NBA Picks. The one time these two played earlier this season the total went over, and that was with everyone healthy. Now with players tired and injured, this game will have much less defense than we are used to.
