Denver Nuggets vs Sacramento Kings (+4) 10:05 ET
The Denver Nuggets travel to Sacramento to meet the Kings at the Sleep Train Arena to open the 2nd half of the season. The game is scheduled for a 10:00 pm ET tip. Though the record of these teams is virtually identical with the Kings one less loss, allowing them a ½ game lead in the teams’ chase for the final playoff spot in the West, the current form of these teams headed into the Break is totally dichotomous.

A meeting between Sacramento HC George Karl and GM Vlade Divac purportedly cleared the air between the two, thus assuring Karl that the rumors surrounding his imminent firing were untrue. But, the move at the All Star Break spoke a different meaning. Divac fired Asst. Vance Walberg, a hand-picked Karl favorite. In response, Karl said “I don’t understand it. It’s never happened in my time as a coach. You move forward and try to make the best of it.” Rumors are that the Kings are looking to replace Walberg with a more defensive minded Asst. There is good reason for that, as the Kings are just 1-9 ATS, allowing 117 PPG in the 10 games leading to the All Star Break. For the YTD, the Kings are the worst defensive team in the league, allowing 109 PPG, a league worst. Karl’s offensive mindset and his offensive triplets, Cousins, Gay and Rondo, can only take this team so far if they refuse to focus on the defensive end of the court.

The Denver Nuggets are playing at the opposite end of the spectrum. After a 12-23 SU start to the season, the Nuggets have responded by going 10-9 SU heading into the Break. The emergence of PG Mudiay and the return of veteran scorer Gallinari keyed the resurgence. They are abetted by Will Barton who is becoming one of the best NBA 6th men. This is a clearly a team on the rise with recent records of 14-3 ATS, including 8-2 ATS on the road. History is on our side as well in this one, as the Nuggets have won 12/16 in the series, including 6-2 SU on this court.

Teams can often turnaround their fortunes during the week off in the All Star Break. Yet, these two franchises seem to be clearly headed opposite directions, leaving us with great value in this wagering line. I invite you to put the NBA odds boards in your favor and join me in my NBA Picks on the underdog Denver Nuggets tonight.
