Sunday's NBA odds market opened this game with New York favored by 2.5 points, the total offered at 205. In the early betting some books bumped the Knicks as much as a point, to -3.5.
New York (4-6 SU, 6-4 ATS) has lost two games in a row, after falling at home to Cleveland Friday night 90-84. The Knicks led the Cavs by six points with just under six minutes to play, but went cold from there, as Cleveland closed the game with a 16-4 run.
For the game New York shot just 37 percent from the field, and committed 15 turnovers, against 16 assists.
The Knicks had lost three in a row, then won two straight, before falling at Charlotte Wednesday night 95-93.
New Orleans (1-8 SU, 2-7 ATS), meanwhile, just dropped its second straight game without star Anthony Davis, falling at Toronto Friday 100-81. The Pelicans led by four points after one quarter, were tied into halftime and only trailed by three midway through the third quarter, but faded from there, and fell down by 24 at one point in the fourth, eventually missing the cash as 10-point dogs.
On the night New Orleans shot just 37 percent from the floor, and made just seven of 23 shots from 3-point range.
The Pelicans began this season with six straight losses, then beat Dallas Tuesday 120-105. They then followed that up with a 106-98 loss at Atlanta Wednesday, but covered at +13.
The Pelicans are now 4-10 without Davis over the past two seasons.
New Orleans is 6-3 on the UNDERS this season, even though Pelicans games have averaged 213 points.
New York is 6-4 on the UNDERS, as Knicks games have averaged 199 points.
Pelicans-Knicks Recent History
These two teams split their two meetings last season, each winning on their home court. New Orleans won 104-93 at the Smoothie King Center while New York won 99-92 at the Garden. Davis missed that Pelicans loss in New York.
The Knicks outshot New Orleans in those two games combined 48 percent to 45 percent.
Also, that first meeting last season squeaked OVER a total of 195, while the second meeting squeaked UNDER a total of 193.
Not only might New Orleans be without Davis again, as he deals with a sore hip, it's already missing four guys who should be in the regular rotation in Norris Cole, Tyreke Evans, Kendrick Perkins and Quincy Pondexter.
