Swinging Johnson - NBA Record (4-6, -8.6 units)
*Games assigned 1 to 5 units.
Last night we cashed with an unpopular underdog in the Dallas Mavericks +7 ½ over the Memphis Grizzlies. Reader Vince May was among the skeptics who posted under the article several reasons why Dallas had no business hanging around last night. Well, if Dallas hadn’t opened up a huge 1st half lead he might have been right but like I said, Dallas has hung around even in defeat recently and this looked to be a low scoring affair. I was right on both counts as Memphis won 90-84 but we took home the dinero with a two unit play on the Mavs.
LA Clippers (41-18 SU, 33-26 ATS) vs. Indiana Pacers (36-21 SU, 33-24 ATS)
The Pacers have been en fuego recently, punishing their last five opponents by an average margin of over 23 points per game. The Pacers throttled the Clips in the same fashion when last the teams met at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse (can these stadium names get any more bland?) in March of last year 102-89, but that might as well have been a thousand years ago.
This is 2013 and as well as Indiana has been playing recently and considering their record at home (24-5 SU, 19-10 ATS), they will be without their big man in the middle Roy Hibbert who was slapped with a one-game suspension which begins and ends tonight. That means their huge advantage down low will be mitigated, and I believe this is enough to justify adding the Clippers to your NBA picks.

Philadelphia 76’ers (22-33 SU, 25-30 ATS) vs. Chicago Bulls (32-25 SU, 24-32-1 ATS)
The Sixers have dropped their last six games with their last effort, er, wrong word there considering they got flattened by the Magic 98-84 at home as 8 ½ point favorites on Tuesday night, being the worst of the bunch. The Bulls have not fared much better, dropping five of their last seven with an equally embarrassing 101-98 loss to the Cavs as 8 ½ point home chalk.

These two teams have met twice this season with Chicago taking both games, 93-88 at home and 96-89 in Philly with both games played in December. This line seems just about right with Chicago laying 7 and my initial inclination was to back Philly with the points but I can’t help but think that the humiliating loss to Cleveland is still sticking in Chicago’s craw.

Minnesota Timberwolves (20-34 SU, 24-28-2 ATS) vs. LA Lakers (28-30 SU, 23-35 ATS)
Despite all the doom and gloom (and glee from non-Laker fans) regarding the LA Lakers this season, this team is going to squeeze into the playoffs. They are making their run, going 11-5 since January 25th but the oddsmakers are still making it difficult to tail a team everyone knows is better than they’ve demonstrated in the early going as LA is only 7-9 ATS during that time.

The Lakers walked out of Minnesota with a 111-100 decision on February 1st as 2 ½ point road favorites, and the NBA odds makers have currently installed them as 10 ½ point favorites in this home tilt. Personally, I’m not comfortable backing the Lakers this season even though they’ve gone on a bit of a tear. The oddsmakers know they’re heating up and are one step ahead by saddling this sub .500 team with hard to cover numbers. Conversely the T’Wolves blow (that’s my expert analysis) but how hard do they blow? Probably enough to get beaten by about 10 points which is why I am staying away from this side and opting for a small play on the total.
