Swinging Johnson - NBA Record (12-13, -9.4 units)
*Games assigned 1 to 5 units.
Ahhhh, the sweet smell of success…finally! Last night we cashed a pair of NBA picks, each worth 2 units, on the New York Knicks covering against the Orlando Magic and an easy Under in the Celtics/Hornets tilt. We’re still struggling to get above .500 but we are on the right track. Let’s see if we can keep our mojo alive in tonight’s action!
Take a look at our NBA Picks: Thursday Night Teaser Plays for a few extra plays to add to your betting ticket.
Portland Trailblazers (31-36 SU, 31-33-3 ATS) vs. Chicago Bulls (36-30 SU, 29-36-1 ATS)
The Trailblazers have lost 14 of 16 on the road and the Bulls need a good shot in the arm after their heartbreaking loss to the Denver Nuggets. Portland has dropped the first two of their five-game road swing with the latest defeat coming at the hands of the Milwaukee Bucks. Portland is 3-7-1 ATS over their last eleven road games and are 2-6 ATS against the Bulls in their last eight meetings. However, the Blazers did win their first and only game of the season against Chicago way back in November when they handed the Bulls a 102-94 defeat.
Though the Chicago’s offense has been anemic this season, averaging a meager 92.8 PPG their defense has responded, surrendering only 92.3 points per contest ranking them as the 3rd best defense in the NBA. Chicago will hold a decided advantage on the glass and that will translate into a double digit cover when you factor in their frustration over losing to Denver in the last second of their game on Monday night. They have also had an extra day to get ready for this one at home.
NBA Picks: Play Chicago -5 for 3 units at Legends.
Minnesota Timberwolves (23-42 SU, 28-35-2 ATS) vs. Sacramento Kings (24-44 SU, 30-36 ATS)
Both teams are playing out the string but that doesn’t mean we can’t make a few bucks as fans in both destinations suffer though a season of futility. The last time the T’Wolves won on the road it was the dead of winter and it’s only gotten chillier for the Minnesotans. Conversely, Sacramento has thrived at home (when considering their record), going 18-15 straight up at home though only 15-16-2 against the number.
Pick your poison here boys. You’ve got two ugly ducklings vying for your affection. But as bad as it’s been for Sacramento, they have been scoring at an unusual rate. They are currently averaging 13.4 points above their season average over their last eleven games in which they’ve gone 5-6 straight up but 7-4 ATS.
While it pains me to add a lousy team like the Kings to our sports picks, it would be even worse to grab the points with an underdog that has clearly given up. Sacramento is at home, they’re scoring like Brad Pitt at a Cougar convention and even their defense has shown signs of life. I’m not going to go overboard and back them with a big play but it seems to me that a team like the Timberwolves could be exactly what the Kings need to reward their latest efforts.
NBA Picks: Play Sacramento -6 for 2 units at Heritage.
