Will the octane for Dallas continue here, or will a visit from the Clippers tighten up the ‘total?’ Find out where we have decided to place our NBA picks in this matchup.

The Dallas Mavericks have seen the OVER collect at 4-0-1 in their last five matchups, putting up 108.2 PPG in that stretch. Tuesday’s NBA action has Rick Carlisle’s club hosting the Los Angeles Clippers, who has had the UNDER cash at 3-1 in their most recent four road spots.

Let's breakdown both of these teams, as we try to decide which way we should lean with our NBA picks.

Mavericks, James outgun Utah

Dallas notched its third win in four games with Sunday’s 113-108 victory over the Utah Jazz, while falling shy of cashing as a six-point home favorite. The Mavericks led by as many as 21 points, connecting 54.3 percent of their field buckets.

Mavericks guard Mike James logged team-highs of 19 points and five assists, while six other mates reached double figures in scoring. Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki and Shawn Marion united for 12 rebounds, with Marion adding three of his side’s eight steals.

The duel’s combined 221 points soared above the ‘total’ of 199 ½, with the Mavs draining 9-of-18 shots from three-point land. Dallas sank 28-of-33 free throws, while being outscored in paint points, 52-36.

Clippers, Paul edge out Nets

Los Angeles has been idle since Saturday’s 101-95 triumph against the Brooklyn Nets, while failing to collect as 7 ½-point home ‘chalk.’  The battle saw each foe lead by no more than eight points, with the Clippers surging past Brooklyn thanks to a 31-20 margin in the fourth quarter.

Clippers guard Chris Paul came away with 29 points and 11 assists, while uniting with mate DeAndre Jordan for five blocks. Jordan logged his own double-double, finishing with 13 points and a team-high 12 boards.

The contest’s combined 196 points leaped beyond the ‘total’ of 190 ½, moving the OVER to 2-1 in the Clippers’ last three matchups. Los Angeles allowed 45.9 percent field shooting from the Nets, while both squads notched 18-for-24 nights at the foul line.

Back the OVER in “Big D”

The NBA odds makers at opened Dallas as a one-point home favorite, while early wagers on the Clippers shifted Los Angeles to be 1 ½-point road ‘chalk.’  The ‘total’ was first listed at 203, with initial betting on the UNDER driving the digits south to 202 ½.

I am adding the OVER in this matchup to Tuesday’s sports picks, looking for a shootout between these rivals.

Dallas showed its depth in Sunday’s win over the Jazz and will look to keep the points piled on here after dropping both of this season’s earlier battles with the Clippers. The OVER is 4-1 in Dallas’ last five games that followed a spot of scoring 100 points or more, while Nowitzki is hitting late-season strides in breaking the 20-point barrier over three of his last five contests.

Los Angeles has been loosening up on the road, giving up 111.5 PPG in its last two spots away from home. Last Tuesday’s most recent affair on an opposing floor saw the Clippers allow 50.7 percent field shooting in Sacramento, including a 14-for-28 mark from three-point land.

The battle in “Sac-town” moved the OVER to 5-2 in Los Angeles’ last seven duels with Western Conference foes, while Paul and Co. face another capable foe here. Dallas has shot a sizable 47 percent from the field at home, which should lead to the battle’s share of running and gunning on both ends.
