In what should be a pretty entertaining game, the Celtics and Knicks hook up from Madison Square Garden tonight in a divisional battle. The NBA Odds have the Knicks as favorites.

Knicks Offense Cranks Up At Home
The Knicks are making a nice comeback from their horrific season a year ago, and a lot of it has to do with their home play. On the year, the Knicks are 10-8 against the NBA odds when playing at the Garden, and after starting the year 0-3 SU when playing at home, the Knicks have since gone 10-5 SU in their last 15 home games. While that trend may be telling us to lay the points with the Knicks tonight, there are some factors standing in my way.

Even though the Celtics have dropped four of their last five games SU, they are still a dangerous team. They play at the third fastest pace of any team, and if the Knicks get into a fast-break battle with Boston tonight, they might end up losing the game. The spread also might be too tight to call, especially in the most volatile month of NBA basketball. Boston won the first meeting between these two teams earlier in the season in Boston, and while they have covered in three of their last four games against the Knicks, two of those ATS cashes came late last season when the Knicks were arguably the worst team in the NBA, and without Carmelo Anthony.

Tonight however, the Knicks not only come in with a solid home record in their last 15 games at MSG, but they have been scoring the basketball with ease at home. The Knicks have hit at least 99 points in their last six home games, and they are averaging over 105 points per game during that stretch. For a team with a pace of only 93.3, which is slower than almost the entire league outside of four teams, that is very good.

The Sharp Pick
While laying the points is by no means a bad NBA Pick tonight, with how small the spread is it’s a bit too volatile for me tonight. Instead, the total is where I am looking to. The Celtics play faster than almost every team outside of the Warriors and Suns, which means they should be able to score tonight by the sheer volume of shots they’ll get up. Despite the fact that the Knicks defense hasn’t been bad this season, the over looks like a pretty good wager between these two Atlantic Division teams. Avery Bradley is also back for the Celtics, which not only helps their defense, it should really help their shooting and overall offense.

The over is now 10-5 in the Knicks’ last 15 games overall, and as I mentioned above, they have cashed the over in seven of their last eight home games thanks to their hot scoring at MSG. Also, despite their horrific season last year, the Knicks have still helped cash the over in four of the last seven meetings between these two teams. Boston is averaging 103 points per game in their last five meetings with the Knicks, and even though they sucked last season, the Knicks averaged a respectable 96 points per game against Boston last year.

On top of all that, these two teams have had little trouble scoring the ball against teams in their own division this season. Both are averaging 103 points per game in divisional matchups, and the two teams are combined to cash the over at 7-5 this season in divisional games. Take the Over and add it to your Tuesday's NBA Picks.
