Our expert handicapper shares his top two NBA totals on Wednesday’s card. Don't make a move on your NBA picks without first reading this article.

L.A. Clippers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder
These two teams have met twice this season, both went under the total, and there was a combined average of 200.0 points scored per game. Considering that the current (12:45 PM ET) NBA odds boards at 5Dimes has a posted total of 215.5 on this contest, those two head to head results must be seriously considered.

The Clippers have allowed 98 points or less in thirteen of its previous eighteen games. They’re 12-6 under the total during that span while holding its opponents to 42.4% shooting, and permitting them to convert on only 33.3% of their three point attempts. Los Angeles is 6-2 under the total in their previous eight games this season when total is 211.5 or more, and there was a combined 204.7 points scored per contest.

Oklahoma City has gone 8-3 under the total in its last eight home games, and there was a combined 209.8 points score per contest. During those eleven outings, they held opponents to an average of 100.3 points per game, and 43.9% shooting. Oklahoma City has gone under the total in each of their previous three contests, and did so by a combined 40.0 points.

Any home team with a total of 210.0 or more, coming off three games that went under the total by a combined 30.0 points or more, and they have a winning record, resulted in those contests going 38-12 (76%) under the total during the past five seasons. The average total in those 50 contests was 214.0, and there was a combined 208.7 points scored per game.

New York Knicks vs. Phoenix Suns
New York has gone under the total in each of its previous six contests, and there was a combined average of 195.8 points scored per game. During their last five outings, New York has averaged just 93.2 points scored per game, and they’ve also allowed their opponents to convert on just 27.6% of its three point attempts. They’ve gone under the total (195.3 PPG) in all four road games this season versus Western Conference opponents, and the number is 204.0 or more. In their only meeting versus Phoenix this season, New York came away with a 102-84 home win, and that game easily stayed under the total of 203.5.

Phoenix has played at a relatively slow tempo of late, averaging only 80 field goal attempts per game during its previous five outings. During that same time frame, they held opponents to a somewhat low 42.1% shooting from the field. Phoenix has been to the free throw line at a substantial rate of 32 times per contest over their previous five games. They’ll be hard pressed to come even near those numbers tonight. New York has allowed opponents just 20 free throw attempts per contest during their previous five games.

With all things being considered, I like this game to be a low scoring affair, and one of my Wednesday NBA Picks will indicative of that forecast.
