Charlotte Hornets vs. Portland Trailblazers 10:00PM ET
When these teams met earlier this season, Charlotte emerged with a (106-94) victory. Key contributor in that Hornets’ win was 33 points from Nicolas Batum, who was traded to Charlotte from Portland in the offseason. For today’s meeting, however, Batum is struggling with an injured toe. He is joined on the injury list for the Hornets by interior players Jefferson and Keller, thus negating the interior edge that Charlotte may have had in this matchup.

Betting Analysis
Injuries to the front line of the Hornets are just the tip of the iceberg. For, their backcourt is battered and bruised as well with Jeremy Lin (ankle) and Lamb (toe), each less than 100%. The team has been carried by perimeter force, Kemba Walker, who has averaged 30 PPG in his previous 6 outings. The return of MKG (Michael Kidd-Gilchrest) for his first action this season may prove helpful. But, he certainly would not be in mid-season form. Going hand in glove with the Hornets’ injury list is a brutal NBA schedule that is today seeing the Hornets play their 10th game in 17 days. The wear and tear of the travel, along with the injuries, resulted in a (102-73) loss at Utah, two nights ago. In that game, the Hornets shot just 37% from the field and committed 20 TOs. This team is far from 100%, as they enter their game tonight against an avenging Portland team.

Unlike the Hornets, Portland is benefiting from a break in the NBA schedule. This will just be their 4th game in 11 days, all at home! The Blazers have won 7 straight against the Hornets on this court, stand 4-1 ATS at home of late and are 8-2 ATS recently against sub.500 foes. The Portland story bears repeating as they are outperforming expectations as much as any team in the NBA. Losing 4 starters from last season, the Blazers were projected to drop from 51 to 27 wins. At 21 victories after 47 games, it is clear they will surpass that projection. They are led by a backcourt tandem of lead guard, Lillard and sniper McCollum, who are averaging a combined 44 PPG, while dishing out a combined 12 APG.

Combination of Portland’s revenge motive, the Charlotte injuries and the favorable dichotomous NBA schedule, give the Trailblazers an excellent chance to win this one handily by double digits. I invite you to put the NBA odds in your favor and join me in my NBA pick on the Portland Trailblazers tonight.
