The Rockets played the Warriors tough last night but to no avail, and now they head into Portland for another tough game right before the All Star Break. Let's review the NBA odds first.

Rockets B2B and Blazers Home Court Advantage
As we approach the half way point of the season, one thing has been clear about the Rockets, and that is how they have struggled coming off the back to back this season. Most of their players played heavy minutes last night, and while the Blazers are anything but a slightly above average team at best, they can take advantage of the tired Rockets coming in right before the break.

Houston might look at this game as a throw away to get straight to their mid-season vacation, and if Houston doesn’t come into this game focused and ready to play, they are going to get waxed and the Blazers will be a fantastic play at the -4 or -4 ½ where you can currently grab them. Houston is only 5-8 ATS this season when playing on no rest, and while they have gone 2-2 against the NBA odds in their last four back to back games, the Moda Center has traditionally been a tough place to play, and I don’t think that changes much tonight.

Houston is only 2-4 SU in their last six games against the Blazers dating back to the playoffs two seasons ago, and on top of that Houston is only 1-5 ATS in their last six games against Portland as well.

While the Blazers haven’t killed the Rockets by any means, Portland is starting to play better heading into the break, and it’s hard to ignore the consistency they have shown recently. Portland has won seven of their last eight games SU, and on top of that, Portland has been a great value for bettors. While it still doesn’t seem like the mainstream betting public is catching onto this, the Blazers have now covered in 11 of their last 14 games heading into tonight’s battle.

The Sharp Pick
Off the back to back this season, a big reason for Houston’s success or lack thereof has been their defense. No one can play defense against the Warriors, but for Houston tonight if they don’t bring their defense against the likes of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum, Houston stands very little chance of covering the +4½ tonight.

Portland now comes into this game covering their last four straight meetings with the Rockets, including two already this season that were both played in Houston. If the Blazers can either beat up, or stay close in Houston, they can surely win and cover this one after the run they have been on recently. Houston is giving up over 108 points per game on the road this season, which is one of the worst road defenses of any team in the NBA currently. On top of that, in their recent hot streak ATS, the Blazers have been shutting down teams. While the Blazers don’t have a great defensive team, they are looking like one over the last ten games, giving up only 97.6 points per game during that stretch. Look for Portland to jump out early on the tired Rockets and not let go tonight, add them as your NBA pick tonight.
