There will be great incentive for the Clippers tonight, as they are just 1 game out of 4th place & trail Memphis by only 3 games for the No. 2 playoff spot. Check inside our NBA pick for this matchup.

LA Clippers vs. Dallas Mavericks (-2-)  8:35 ET NBA TV
The LA Clippers travel to Dallas Friday night in a matchup of Western Conference Playoff teams should the playoffs begin tonight.  Dallas has fallen to the No. 7 spot with a 41-25 SU mark but remains 4 ½ games ahead of New Orleans.  The LA Clippers are 42-23 SU, holding down the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference playoff queue.  But there will be great incentive for the Clippers in this, as they are just 1 game out of 4th place (home court advantage in the first round) and trail Memphis by only 3 games for the No. 2 playoff spot. Each of these teams has dealt with injury or personnel issues in recent weeks, but only one has met the challenge.  That team, the LA Clippers, will be our selection tonight in a matchup of two teams headed opposite directions.

Since a contentious debate between Dallas HC Rick Carlisle and newly acquired PG Rajon Rondo (which resulted in a one game suspension for Rondo), the Mavs have lost their way.  The current run on NBA Odds is 2-6 SU ATS with victories only against New Orleans at home and the LA Lakers (doesn’t count) on the road.  Against quality teams in the last 8 games, the results have been horrendous for Dallas.  The Mavs have lost by 17 to Atlanta, 19 to Portland, 15 to Golden St. and 33 to Cleveland.  This high-scoring Dallas team, which averages 104 PPG for the season, has averaged just 92 PPG on 42% shooting in their last 5 games.  Until they turn the corner and post the victory against a winning side, we want no part of them in this role.

The Clippers have responded to adversity in an opposite manner.  LAC has gone 9-5 SU ATS since the loss of all-star forward, Blake Griffin (elbow).  In addition, they have even survived without valuable 6th man, Jamal Crawford, who is out indefinitely with a calf injury suffered March 9th.  That is 39 PPG that the Clippers are missing from their lineup.  A 120-108 win at OKC was a metaphor of their performance in recent times.  On the road, since the All Star break, the Clippers have beaten such noteworthy foes as Memphis by 18, Chicago by 10 and OKC by 12.  In addition, the Clippers have owned this series with an 8-2 SU recent series record, including a mark of 4-1 ATS in this series at this site

In the ebb and flow of the NBA and in a battle of two teams headed opposite directions, we comfortably add to our  NBA Picks the positive momentum that is the LA Clippers against the struggling Dallas Mavericks.
