With C.J. McCollum still missing for the Blazers and the Nets coming into Monday’s game riding a three-game ATS winning streak, is there value on the underdog Nets tonight?

Before McCollum went down, the Blazers were virtually unstoppable ATS when playing at home. They are a good small market team with a big home court advantage, but they have dropped four of their last five home games ATS and they might be in danger of it happening again on Monday.

Portland’s Defensive Lapses

Portland is a tough place to play for opposing NBA teams for several reasons. The Moda Center is loud and the Blazer fans are some of the loudest in the league. The Blazers also sport one of the best defenses in the league.

However, that has not been the case over the last couple of games with McCollum on the sidelines. Not that the two are completely related, but over their last two home games the Blazers have given up an average of 116.8 points per 100 possessions against the Pistons and Mavericks.

Those two teams are exactly the cream of the crop either, so it’s a bit concerning with McCollum set to miss another game, can the Blazers’ defense hold on enough to keep the Nets within arm’s length?

The Nets are better than both the Mavs and Pistons, so looking at the Blazer’s recent stretch of 1-4 ATS in their last five home games, taking the points with Brooklyn is more than appealing.

Brooklyn has also held their own this season when traveling on the road against Western Conference teams. They are 6-8 SU and 9-5 ATS on the road against the West and they have played well on offense averaging 109 points per 100 possessions in those 14 games.

With the Blazers banged up and not playing defense as sharp as they were before this past week, there is an opportunity for a teaser here.

The Sharp Pick

I think taking the +6 ½ with the Nets is a strong play, but to make it even better I want to add in an under play just to hedge our bet a little. The total has been trending downward since it opened yesterday and there is still some room to make an under play along with teasing the spread up.

At a 4 ½ point teaser, we could get the Nets up to +11 in the spread and the total all the way up to 228 at 5Dimes, or 228.5 at Bookmaker.

I think the Blazers’ defensive lapses lately are an outlier at best, so I’m not terribly concerned about this one turning into a shootout. If we can avoid overtime I like the Nets chances to keep it within three possessions and for the final score to end up right around the posted total. This makes our teaser a much better value than just taking the +6 ½.

Final Score Prediction: Nets 109 – Blazers 115
