Even though the Kings have officially been eliminated from the playoffs, their new goal of a record above .500 is well within reach. Even though it’s more of a morale booster than anything, a win over the Spurs, who are fighting for playoff positioning, could be in the cards Sunday night.

However, they have done a lot of the work to cover the full game spread in the first halves of their games. With a Kings team coming in to town playing for nothing but pride and the potential to have a winning record, the Spurs’ defense should come to play.

Spurs Fighting To Avoid Warriors

The back half of the Western Conference standings are shaping up to be a sprint to the finish. Coming into play on Sunday, only two games separate the final four seeds in the West and all four teams, including the Spurs, really want to avoid to avoid playing the Warriors in the first round of the playoffs.

Right now, the Spurs own the tie breaker over the Thunder, so they sit in the seventh seed, but with the Thunder playing in the afternoon on Sunday, the Spurs will know whether they need to win to stay out of the eighth seed. OKC is playing Dallas as large -12 favorites, so chances are by the time we get to tip off of this game that the Spurs will need to win to stay in seventh.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Spurs vs. Kings might be the best matchup for viewing
— Jimmy (@_JimmyMcCormick) 31 de março de 2019
\n"}[/]

The Sharp Pick

With the motivation the Spurs have, plus their stellar play at home this season, I think the first half total is pretty intriguing. The Spurs’ home defense in the first halves of their games has been great this season and with the right motivation tonight, it could get even better.

San Antonio has allowed just 107 points per 100 possessions in the first halves of their home games this season and when they play the West at home, their first half defense improves to 105.3 points allowed per 100 possessions.

The Kings have also been great in the first half defensively since the All Star Break and if their fast pace offense is being slowed down by the Spurs, this first half total could be way too high. Sacramento has allowed over 112 points per 100 possessions in the first halves of their road games this season, but since the break that has improved tremendously.

The Kings are allowing just 107.6 points per 100 possessions in their last 11 games on the road against the West.

With an inflated first half line of 116 points, add the under to your NBA Picks on Sunday night. Leaving out their last meeting against one another, the first half under has cashed at 2-1-1 in their prior four meetings dating back to last season. I think it will return for their late March game tonight.

First Half Score Prediction: Kings 53 – Spurs 58
