So far this season it looks like Russell Westbrook is on a mission to show Oklahoma City will be fine without Kevin Durant. Today they take on their toughest competition yet in the Los Angeles Clippers and NBA odds makers have made the Clippers a decent favorite. Can Westbrook continue his torrid pace?

Oklahoma City Thunder

Oklahoma City is averaging 109.7 points per game while allowing 101 points per game so far this season and Russell Westbrook averaging 38.7 points per game. It seems to me we will get a better feel for how this Oklahoma City team is going to do as they start to take on much stiffer competition which begins tonight in Los Angeles. Westbrook played well against Los Angeles last season and versus the Clippers, he averaged 27 points per game. The issue tonight though is the fact that the Thunder have been so top-heavy with his scoring that might hinder them a little bit against a well-balanced and good defensive team. I look for the Clippers to focus their defensive scheme on getting stops versus Westbrook and making him distribute the ball more. For Oklahoma City to make some real noise in the Western Conference they're going to need a little bit more balance, and tonight I believe the role players will struggle versus a good Los Angeles team.

Los Angeles Clippers

Los Angeles comes in averaging 106 points per game while allowing just 93 which ranks them 10th and fourth respectively. The Clippers have ramped things up defensively and currently rank first in the NBA in opponent attempts from beyond the arc. The issue for them tonight, of course, will be to try and slow down the fastest offense in the NBA currently with Oklahoma City averaging 95 attempts per game, but the Clippers counter that nicely allowing opponents just 80.7 attempts per contest which ranks them third in the league. Although that has quite a bit to do with the fact that they faced Utah recently, but still Los Angeles allowed Portland and Phoenix to get up just 85 and 84 attempts respectively which are good numbers for how fast those two teams play. Look for Los Angeles to get enough stops and slowly and steadily pull away from Oklahoma City winning this game by around double digits.

Oddsmakers have made Los Angeles a -6.5 favorites like at bookmaker, now offering 50% free play bonus. For my NBA pick, I'm going to back Los Angeles minus the points as I like how they have looked so far this season. Don't look for Russell Westbrook to get a triple-double this game.
