Monday’s NBA odds have some interesting spots for some of the spreads, but one game with a spread that’s a mile long is the Warriors hosting the Grizzlies. However, the total for this game is an inviting one, especially when you consider the game will be played between two stout defenses.

Jordan’s NBA Picks: 3-1

Memphis (5-2 SU & 5-2 ATS) vs. Golden State (9-1 SU & 6-4 ATS)

Monday, 10:30 p.m. EST, NBATV

Free Pick: UNDER

Best Line Offered: BetOnline

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3569750, "sportsbooksIds":[1096,999991,19,93,238], "LineTypeId":3, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

With a Sunday night game in the desert, the Grizzlies could be a little worn down on Monday night as they head into Golden State to meet the two-time defending champs. However, while Memphis may struggle on offense playing on the second night of a back-to-back, their defense should still show up.

League’s Top Defenses

Last season with their veterans injured and out for most of the season, the Grizzlies’ defense took a turn for the worse. It’s how they ended up among the top five lottery teams. However, with Mike Conley and Marc Gasol back and leading this dynamic group of undervalued veterans and future stars, this defense has played very well.

Memphis currently owns the league’s fourth-best defensive rating entering play on Sunday, limiting their opponents to only 103.8 points per 100 possessions. They are able to do this with how slow they play on offense.

Memphis owns a pace of 96.3 points per 100 possessions, which ranks them slowest among all 30 teams. If they are able to slow down the Warriors’ potent offensive attack, this will be a lot lower scoring game than I think some people are projecting.

Golden State’s defense is very good as well. If they are baited into getting into a half-court game with the Grizzlies, they should have no problem bucking down on defense to slow down the undervalued Grizzlies.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Grit and Grind defense is back and the Grizzlies are reaping the benefits (by @IllegalScreens) ;/a> ;/a>
— The Step Back (@The_Step_Back) October 31, 2018
\n\n"}[/]

The Sharp Pick

So far this season the Warriors have cashed the under in three of their five home games, and with the offensive hot start for the entire league starting to cool, the under might be a sneaky play here. The Warriors played a similarly defensive minded Wolves teams in their last game, and they held them to just 99 points.

If the Warriors’ defense is similarly engaged on Monday night, Memphis may not get above 95 points. Traditionally these matchups have been lower scoring in the past. The under is 8-5-1 in their last 14 regular season matchups in the last five seasons. If you include their postseason series from 2015, the under is 13-6-1 in their last 20 games against one another.

Considering the Warriors are top 10 in defensive rating and holding teams to 108.3 points per 100 possessions, I would not be surprised to see this one end at 110-97, or something similar. Add the under to your bet slip Monday in hopes of a grit and grind type of game.
