The Clippers are playing with house money. After trading away Tobias Harris and signaling to the league that they were prepared to tank, they have found themselves in the 8th seed. Will they be the sacrificial lamb for the Dubs’ eventual championship run, or will they actually make the Warriors sweat?
Clippers’ Defensive Weaknesses
All season, even after trading Harris to the Sixers, the Clippers have had little trouble scoring the ball. They finished the regular season ninth in the league in offensive rating averaging 111.3 points per 100 possessions.
However, their issues all season have been stopping opposing teams. They are matched up with the worst opponent in the first round for that particular weakness. Although they averaged allowing roughly 110 points per 100 possessions, which ranked them slightly below league-average, this is the Warriors now.
In four regular season games against the defending champs, LA allowed 122 points per game and they have not beaten the Dubs in their last three games against them.
For Saturday’s game, that may be where we can attack the sportsbooks. Golden State may come out relaxed and going through the motions in yet another Game 1 of the playoffs for them and I think the Clippers could score some points on them.
The Sharp Pick
On the road the Clippers have also struggled to stop opposing teams in the first half. They are allowing nearly 115 points per 100 possessions in the first halves of their road games this season.
Assuming the Warriors have no problems scoring on the Clippers, the first half of this one could be very high scoring. I’m sure these games will be lower in scoring as the series goes along, but in the first game I think Golden State can get more that 60 in the first half and the Clippers won’t be far behind.
