Both the Wizards and Trail Blazers have won three straight, so one of these streaks will come to an end tonight. Are we siding with Portland or Washington with our NBA picks?
Trailblazers vs. Wizards: Betting Odds Overview
Expect a highly competitive matchup here, with oddsmakers listing Washington as a small two-point favorite. The Wizards have been a disaster to consistently back against the spread this season, as they're 26-39-1 ATS. Meanwhile, the Trail Blazers are 34-29-1 ATS and thus have been much more reliable at the window.
The O/U for tonight's game is at 197 right now, with plenty of time left throughout the day for the NBA odds to shift.
It looks like the Wizards have finally turned the tide. They had been really struggling, but have been performing a lot better lately, winning three straight. They beat Charlotte on the road and then overcame a shorthanded Memphis team and then Sacramento at home. The competition hasn't been the greatest, but the wins are all that matters.
Washington last played Saturday in a dominant win over the Kings. John Wall went off, scoring 31 points while adding 12 assists in 39 minutes of action. Paul Pierce, Bradley Beal, Marcin Gortat, Rasual Butler and Kevin Seraphin all hit double figures too, as the Wizards shot 53.1 percent overall and an impressive 50.0 percent from beyond the arc as well.
After missing a couple days due to the birth of his child, Nene is expected to return to the lineup tonight, and that will be a nice boost too. The Wizards need to build up all the momentum they can in order to get a high seed come playoff time, so it'll be interesting to see if they're able to gain some steam now that they're healthy again.
Portland Trail Blazers
The Trail Blazers may have lost key hog Wesley Matthews for the season, but they've managed to not only stay afloat but continue to pile up victories. They're also on a three-game winning streak and they've won eight of their last 10 games overall, a run that includes victories over some of the best teams in the NBA.
Last night, Portland secured a very impressive road win over Toronto. In the 113-97 triumph, the Trail Blazers got a combined 47 points from LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard, while Nicolas Batum put up 10 points, 12 assists, four rebounds and three steals in another versatile performance. Portland shot 52.3 percent overall as a team and played great team basketball in a classy performance up in Canada. Will the Trail Blazers be able to keep it going this evening?
Playing on back-to-back nights and a third game in four nights is never easy, but it seems Portland relishes these situations. The Trail Blazers have embraced the "under-the-radar" role and have more often than not followed through for those handicappers that have stuck with them in the face of tough spots. Tonight qualifies as just that.
While it's obviously tempting to get to back the Wizards at such a short price at home, we've been more impressed with the Trail Blazers lately.
Portland has been beating some top competition lately, overcoming the likes of Toronto, Houston, Dallas and the LA Clippers recently, and they've done very well on back-to-back sets throughout the season. Coming into this evening's tough test, they've gone 9-4 SU and 8-5 ATS in 13 tailend matchups of a back-to-back.
At a rock solid 8-2 over their last 10, we think the Trail Blazers have even more momentum than the Wizards right now, so we'll jump at the chance to back them at an underdog price. We like Portland as our NBA pick to cover tonight.
