A big Wednesday showdown awaits us with the Blazers heading into Los Angeles to face LeBron James and the Lakers. With the Blazers owning the best ATS record in the league to start the season, can we expect them to be a good play?

Jordan’s NBA Picks: 5-5

Portland (10-3 SU & 10-3 ATS) at LA Lakers (7-6 SU & 4-9 ATS)

Wednesday, 10:30 PM EST (ESPN)

Free NBA Pick: Under

Best Line Offered: BetOnline

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3569961, "sportsbooksIds":[1096,19,180,139,169], "LineTypeId":3, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

Who knew that Tyson Chandler would be a difference maker after being bought out by the Suns and signed in LA. Since he joined the Lakers, they have looked like a new team on defense, and along with JaVale McGee it gives LA a strong center rotation. Chandler may be a dead man rising, but will it be enough Wednesday with a talented Portland team coming to town?

via GIPHY

Lakers’ Defense Improving

BAH GAWD! THAT’S TYSON CHANDLER’S MUSIC!

Tyson Chandler has only played in three games and 68 total minutes for the Lakers this season, so it’s easy to get lost in the hype. At his age, it’s going to be hard for the Lakers to manage his minutes and playing time to keep him healthy.

However, while it has only been three games, the data returns from those three games have been impressive. In the 68 minutes Chandler has been on the court this season, the Lakers are holding their opponents to just 95.7 points per 100 possessions. Compare that to the 562 minutes he has not played this season for the Lakers, where LA is allowing 114.2 points per 100 possessions.

That gap should close some, but the results thus far have been incredible. Combine in McGee’s contributions on offense, and the Lakers are a new team at the center position with Chandler.

The more challenging part will be how much faith/patience they have with some of their younger stars. However, as it goes for Wednesday, the Lakers now have someone their can confidently pit against Jusuf Nurkic and the rest of the talented Blazers frontcourt.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

NBA Power Rankings: Tyson Chandler's defense has proven to be an X-factor for the Lakers ;/a> ;/a>
— The Crossover (@TheCrossover) November 13, 2018
\n\n"}[/]

The Sharp Pick

The big question mark leading in to Wednesday is whether or not Damian Lillard is going to be able to play. He tweaked his knee falling to the ground in Monday’s game, and if he is not playing it will shift the NBA Odds for this game by several points.

With that in mind, the total may be a better option for your NBA Picks. With the Lakers improving on defense, it puts this game square in the roadmap for an under play.

The Blazers have already opened the season as one of the more undervalued defensive teams in the league. They are holding opponents to just 105.9 points per 100 possessions, which ranks sixth-best in the NBA. Combined with that, they are limiting their opponents to a 48.3% effective field goal percentage, which is the best mark of all 30 defenses.

If that can continue on the road, along with the improved Lakers defense, this game could get a playoff-style defensive identity to it. If Lillard isn’t able to play, it only helps our cause because of his importance to the Portland offense. Either way the under is looking like a strong bet.
