The Clippers lost a tough game last night to the Warriors & probably hurt their confidence. However they have to shake if off quickly tonight against a good Blazers team with home court on the line.
Fighting for position
After their loss last night, and with the Blazers idle on Tuesday, the Clippers are now tied with Portland for the 4th seed in the West, which is extremely important for everyone in the West. Whoever wins this game will take outright control of the 4th seed, and it’s even more important for the Clippers, who have played a full two more games than the Blazers have at this point. If LA loses this one after losing last night, it could really hurt their chances of getting a home game to start the playoffs. After tonight they will only have six games left in the season.
So that being said, the Clippers are going to have to have a short memory after a tough loss last night. Portland is getting healthier and they look like a team that could grab that 4th seed. The NBA odds have the Clippers as +3 underdogs on the road tonight off the back to back, but the spread may be off limits tonight. It’s a smaller number and either team could win this game, but the total of 209 might actually be the way to go tonight with this tough Western Conference playoff battle.
The Sharp Pick
With the Clippers coming off the back-to-back, defense will be far from their priorities. On the season they are 12-5 cashing the over coming off the back to back, and I see no reason to believe that the over won’t continue to be the play with the Clippers off the back-to-back tonight. On top of the Clippers great consistency cashing the over on no rest, the Blazers have also been cashing the over recently. The Blazers are 8-3 cashing the over in their last 11 games, and they are also 5-2 cashing the over following a SU win.
The Clippers on the other hand have also been good at cashing the over recently, including their game last night. The over is 5-2 in their last seven games overall, and the over is 5-1 in their last six games on the road.
These two teams play at pretty fast paces, and while the Blazers have fallen some in the pace stats down to 13th, they still are going to have enough possessions tonight to cash the over. The Clippers are currently ranked 9th in pace, however while these two teams have cashed the under in their last two meetings, in their last four meetings in Portland dating back to 2013, the over is 3-1. Look for the over to be the play tonight in what should be a close game down the stretch. It could come by garbage time free throws late in the game with one team ahead by five or six points, but it all counts in the end. As for this NBA pick take the over.
