There's nothing like NBA Wednesdays, and today we have a full card for a very eventful basketball night. We have four spots tonight that carry plenty of value, read on to get the edge.

Wizards vs Heat

The Wizards are coming off of three-game winning streak to get their record to 8-5 and are currently in third place in the Eastern Conference. Granted, the Wizards opponents will not be mistaken for world beaters on the offensive end (Lakers, Hawks, and Kings), but they were able to hold each of those teams to under 100 points and pull their record to 5-0 when holding opponents under the century mark.

The Miami Heat have had the Wizards number in recent memory, beating them four straight games last season. The reason why the Heat have had so much success against the Wizards has been the play of Hassan Whiteside. Whiteside is averaging 15.9 points per game 13.0 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per contest. The thing that makes Whiteside such a difficult matchup for the Wizards is his far superior athleticism over Marcin Gortat, who has the tendency to play below the rim.

If the Wizards want to beat Miami, they will have to figure out a way to draw Whiteside away from the basket and allow Gortat to do what he does best, and that’s setting screens. Gortat leads the NBA with 5.5 screened assists per game, and has turned himself into a master at using his physicality and great footwork to seal off opponents to allow John Wall and Bradley Beal space to create shots.

 Utah vs Knicks

The Knicks are coming off a very eventful start to their week when they allowed Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers to come into Madison Square Garden and come back from a 23-point deficit and defeat the Knicks. The biggest story had to do with the conversations that were taking place off the court in which Lebron James commented that the Knicks should have taken Dennis Smith Jr with their first round draft pick. Enes Kanter took offense to that and stood up for his new teammates by confronting James during the game and making sly comments about him after the game.

All this has done is mobilize a young Knicks team to band together and play even harder for their teammates. The young unicorn Kristaps Porzingis has lead his team to a 7-7 record and establishing himself as one of the best players in the entire league with his versatile play. Porzingis will certainly give the Utah Jazz problems as they will be without their First Team All-Defensive big man Rudy Gobert, who is out at least a month with a bone bruise to his knee. In Gobert’s absence, the Jazz will have to start Derrick Favors, who is known for his offensive prowess rather than his defense.

The Knicks are 6-3 at home this season and will look to continue their winning ways against a Utah team that is struggling to find it’s identity with Gobert out.

 Pistons vs Bucks

The Pistons just completed a five-game homestand sweep and have taken early control of the Central Division. The Bucks will try to remain competitive in that division by closing the gap with a win in Milwaukee. The Bucks are still figuring out how to ease Eric Bledsoe into their team, and the transition has been seamless because of Bledsoe’s style of play.

Bledsoe is the prototypical NBA point guard in the sense that he has elite ball-handling skills and can excels play-making in the pick-and-roll. This allows Giannis to lay off the ball more and inflict damage on opposing defenses by using his length to attack on backdoor cuts and isolations. At times it became a problem for Giannis to attack defenses with the ball in his hands so much because it is a lot easier for the defenses to key in on him.

For Detroit, the key to victory will be to figure out a way for their bench to continue dominating teams. The Pistons bench is lead by Ish Smith, who at times has played as well as the starter, Reggie Jackson. The thing about the Bucks bench is that they have gotten stronger with the edition of  Bledsoe because it now allows former rookie of the year Malcolm Brogdon to now take over the second-unit. Brogdon has too much size for the Pistons to handle and should nullify any perceived advantage that the Pistons bench may have.

 Cavaliers vs Hornets

The Hornets will be getting a major boost to their team on Wednesday when Nicolas Batum makes his season debut after tearing his UCL ligament in his elbow in the preseason. Batum unlocks so many different lineups for the Hornets because of the versatility that comes with his 6”7’ frame. Combine that with the fact that Batum is a fantastic ball-handler and will allow Kemba to play off-the-ball more and not have to go one-on-one at the end of shot clocks damn near every possession. The Hornets will need to do everything within their power to stop King James from extending their losing streak to five games in a row.

Cleveland, on the other hand, is still trying to find their groove with their new cast of characters around Lebron James. The Cavs have struggled mightily defending the basket from opposing teams and are still giving up 112 points per game, which ranks 27th in the NBA. The good thing about that matchup is that the Hornets are only scoring 103 points per contest, which only ranks 20th in the NBA. This game will be a style of fights, and in such a matchup of contrast, give me the best player on the planet.
