The Pacers and Pistons both started their post All-Star break schedules with back to back victories as the two teams attempt to pick up steam heading into the Eastern Conference playoff race. Indiana is somehow managing to stay one of the better teams in the entire league, despite the loss to All-Star guard Victor Oladipo. The Pacers are maintaining their position as the third best team in the East and have largely done so by being a force on the defensive end.

Indiana has won eight of its last nine, including a 119-112 triumph at Washington on Saturday. The Pacers overcame 23 turnovers with the aid of point guard Darren Collison. who scored 11 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter.

If nothing else, the Pistons are feeling a lot better about themselves and what the rest of the season might bring. Their 119-96 win at Miami on Saturday, following a three-point victory at Atlanta the previous night, has elevated them to the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference. The reserves carried Detroit at Miami, racking up a season-high 66 points. Point guard Ish Smith reached season bests with 22 points and nine assists, while fellow reserves Luke Kennard and Langston Galloway each scored 17 points.

There are still some elements to Griffin’s game that are endearing for the Pistons and a large part of that has to be his ability to run the offense and set up Andre Drummond. Griffin is averaging 5.4 assists per game over his last ten games and has been the focal point of the Pistons offense which has been run out of the high-post. Detroit can be successful with this style of play, they just need more depth to be able to stay in games when Drummond and Griffin are on the bench.

The Pacers struggle on the road, as they are just 13-15 ATS way from home this season. Indiana center, Myles Turner has missed the last two games with a hip injury and is listed as questionable for the Pistons game. If he is unable to go, that gives Detroit a major advantage in the interior, and the Pistons should be able to ride Drummond and Griffin to victory.
