One of the earliest starts tonight should be one of the better games between the Wizards and Celtics. The NBA Odds tonight have the Celtics as -3 favorites with a total of 210 ½.

Fast Pace, Slow Starts
The Wizards and Celtics are both playing at some of the fastest paces of all the 30 NBA teams this season, and while the Celtics are playing fast, their defense has been very good so far to start the season as well. They are giving up only 98 points per game, and while the meetings between these two in the past have gone way over the total, I could easily see these two getting into a more defensive battle tonight. With a total of 210½, the sportsbooks have taken into account some of these previous meetings a little too much in my opinion. Only one of the games was this season and the Wizards gave up 118 points on the road. While the Wizards haven’t looked great on the defensive end over their last two games, in their previous three before that they had started to look like a solid defensive unit again. Against the Magic, Bucks and Pistons, they gave up an average of only 93 points against those three teams, and if they can find their defense again tonight against the Celtics, this total is much too high tonight.

The Celtics currently have the 5th best Defensive Efficiency in the NBA at 96.7, and with the Wizards trying to install a new and fast-paced offense, I could see plenty of turnovers and sloppy play from Washington. While both teams could still get into a track meet against one another, that doesn’t mean that shots will be falling into the hoop.

The Sharp Pick
Boston is currently giving up only 97 points per game when playing at home this season, and while they are scoring better than 102 points per game against the East this season, the Wizards do have the ability to break out the defense. They have been looking better on both ends of the court in their last week or so of action, but what tonight boils down to is will both teams make shots against one another. With the exception of their blowout win against the Nets a few nights ago, the Celtics have shot the ball at 43% or worse from the field in four of their last five games, and the Wizards haven’t been much better, shooting only 36% in their previous game against the Hornets.

While this is more speculation that anything, we are reaching the point of the season where defenses are starting to catch up to offenses and the NBA odds show as much. While this is more prevalent in the NFL than the NBA, most teams have reached the 15 game mark this season, and their legs might be starting to feel the burn so to speak. I’m looking for a final score of about 104-100 tonight, so add the under to your NBA picks tonight.

Free NBA Pick: UNDER 210½

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":2882689, "sportsbooksIds":[1096,19,93,92,238,349], "LineTypeId":3, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]
