Who would have figured that early in December, the Los Angeles Clippers would have just a few more wins than the Minnesota Timberwolves? Who will be our free NBA pick tonight?

The Clippers finally seem to have some momentum. This is team that started the season with just six wins in their first 13 games, which is unacceptable for a unit that’s supposed to be a championship contender. The light bulb has gone on recently as they’ve won four of their last five games. They still had a hiccup – a 103-91 loss at home to the Indiana Pacers – but this is a team that’s been far more effective of late. The main difference has been the defense. The Clippers have allowed an average of 95.9 points per game and tightening up at that ends has been the difference.

As for the T-Wolves, they’ve dropped three straight, which comes on the heels of a three-game winning streak. One of those losses was in Los Angeles to the Clippers. They’re a young team that is very inconsistent. They started the season 4-2 but have actually dropped nine of their last 13 games.

Home-Away Trends
The Timberwolves are at home in this one but that’s not necessarily a good thing. They are just 2-8 at home this season, which is among the worst home records in the NBA. Only the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers have fewer home wins. The good news is the T-Wolves have been slightly better at home of late (2-2 in last four) but they have played much better on the road (6-3) than at home this season.

As for the Clippers, they have been a dicey bet on the road this season. They are just 2-4 in away games compared to 9-5 at home. They’ve lost four of their last five away games and the defense has really let them down in those spots. They’re allowing 108 points per game on the road.

We’ll have to keep an eye on the injury report as part of the Clippers early season struggles have been injury-related. They’ve been without their starting back court for a little while but Chris Paul and J.J. Redick are questionable for Monday.

As for the T-Wolves, they’re in pretty good shape health-wise going into this game.

What’s The Pick?
The Timberwolves have not played well over the last week and they don’t play well at home. Those figure to be a couple of concerns heading into this one. However, the bigger question mark is the status of the Clippers backcourt. If they play, then the Clippers could be offering a bit of value as just a one-point favorite on the NBA odds. That’s the route I’ll go as I like the Clippers whether Paul and Redick are back or not. The Clippers are a deep team and they’ve seemingly put it together with a nice little hot stretch over their last couple of weeks. Take them with your NBA picks.
