The New York Knicks will try to bounce back from their stunning collapse versus Cleveland as they host Utah at home. On the other end of the country, the Los Angeles Lakers will battle the Philadelphia 76ers. Will these East Coast and West Coast battles go under or over the totals?

Utah vs New York

I expect New York to bounce back tonight against Utah team that seems to have a different dynamic than what we have seen in years past. Usually we don’t see totals this high set for Utah, and in fact these two teams combined have not seen a total set this high by odds makers since 2011. Although Utah is traditionally one of the slower paced teams in the NBA for my NBA pick I’m going to back over the total in this matchup.  On the season Utah is still going at quite a slow pace but what has surprised me is statistically they are not defending like we saw last year. This could be a problem tonight against a New York team that is shooting 47.8% from the floor which is good for third in the NBA. Both teams offensively for the most part have been polar opposites with New York averaging 40.9 field goals made per game, and Utah just 35.5 ranking them third and 30th in the NBA respectively. I believe with New York being the home team though they will control the tempo and the scoring pace, and Utah at times this year has shown the ability to be in some high scoring affairs going over this set total four out of their last six games.

Philadelphia vs Los Angeles

I’ve a hard time believing there is going to be a lot of defense in this matchup tonight so for my NBA pick I will back over the total in Los Angeles. Both teams are improved from last year, and although Los Angeles tends to struggle scoring at times, they are averaging 106 points at home compared to just 100 on the road. Last year these two teams pushed the tempo quite a bit and this year not much has changed from that aspect. What has changed though is the fact that both these teams can actually score some points as they both rank better than half of the league in field goals made per game. On top of that Philadelphia is averaging 87.4 attempts per game, and Los Angeles 86.6 ranking them fourth and seventh in the league respectively. This should be a track meet from the get-go and with both teams able to score this year look for them to get over 220.
