The Mavericks had been playing a bit faster in January, but lately they have been slowing things back down. Will that mean lower scoring tonight against the Rockets?

Even though the Mavericks are coming off a back-to-back, this one should be similar to Saturday night’s game when they took care of the Lakers 130-123. Tonight's game likely won’t be as high scoring, but the Rockets should have no problem putting up points as well.

While the "under" has cashed in the first two meetings between these teams, this one looks like a higher scoring affair with Dallas coming in on no rest.

The Rockets have cashed the "over" in four of their last five games, but the best part about this game is the first-half total. While the whole game might be higher scoring, I’m a bit worried about the two teams buckling down on defense in the second half.

Instead, the first-half total on the NBA odds board looks like a fine value. In their last three games the Mavs have been giving up and scoring some impressive first-half totals. The average total combined score going into halftime for the Mavs in that stretch is more than 120 points.

If that continues tonight against the fast-paced Rockets, the first-half "over" is going to add some nice value to your NBA picks. Houston has been a monster at home this season, averaging 61 points per first half.
