Wednesday night is always a great night for NBA basketball and today we are to check out the totals in two of the matchups. New look Oklahoma City travels to Indiana, and different dynamic Portland visits Miami. Will these teams from the Western Conference taking on the Eastern Conference produce low or high scoring affairs?

Portland at Miami

Portland has been running at a much different pace than we have seen years past under Terry Stotts as they currently average just 85.7 attempts per game ranking them in the middle the NBA. Oddsmakers have come out with a pretty low total for this affair, but for my NBA pick, I will back under the total. The Miami Heat remain one of the best defensive teams in the league and currently rank in the top 10 in most defensive categories highlighted by allowing opponents to shoot just 48.9% on their two-point shots. What they have been excellent that though is not allowing opponents to get up or knock down many three-point shots ranking first and third in opponent three-pointers attempted and made per game respectively. This is will be important tonight against a Portland team that shoots 37.4% from distance. Surprisingly Portland actually comes in with the better defensive numbers ranking third in opponent shooting efficiency and also allowing opponents to shoot just 35% from distance. When it comes to beyond the arc they actually defend just as well as Miami ranking second and first in the NBA in opponent three-pointers attempted and made per game respectively. -Get on this one fast, as the lines are rapidly dropping!

Like Portland Oklahoma City has gone from an up-tempo team to focusing more on the defensive end and oddsmakers have taken notice setting up some low totals for them this season. This total set by oddsmakers is actually a little bit higher though considering they’re playing Indiana and for my NBA pick I’m going to back over the total with this matchup. Although OKC has played much better defense this year they are still getting up 86.4 attempts per game which ranks them ninth in the NBA. This pace should prove the difference as Indiana has been one of the fastest and better offensive teams in the league this season. Currently, Indiana is getting up 87 attempts per game, but more impressively is they’re averaging 41.7 field goals made per game which ranks them second in the league. They’re also shooting 48% from the field and 39.5% from distance ranking them fifth and second in the league respectively. OKC has been good in limiting tempo this year ranking second in the league in opponent field goals attempted and made per game, but with this game being at Indiana I like for the pace to be quick and for both teams to score.
