The Cavaliers will look to close out the Pacers on Sunday afternoon after a crazy Game 3 that saw them overcome a 25-point halftime deficit. With the NBA Odds favoring the Cavaliers from -3 ½ to -4, can we expect the Pacers to comeback with a counter-punch?

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Indiana PacersKeeping Pace

The Pacers are aptly named when they are at their best, which is when they are playing more like the ABA Pacers than the recent years of the NBA’s Pacers. This season as a whole has been up and down, but when they are at home and playing fast, they seem to be at their best.

Why the Pacers can’t put this together for an entire game, let alone in a series is beyond me, but for tonight with their pride and reputations on the line, I see them coming out firing like they did in the first half of Game 3.

I see Indiana and Cleveland both trying to put one another away early, which could mean more offense at the beginning before the defense settles in. The Cavaliers haven’t played great defense in this series, so at home where they always seem to play well, I see Indiana getting a good amount of points to start this matinee game.

The Sharp Pick

Indiana has had success against the Cavaliers early in games so far in this series and that won’t stop in Game 4 on Sunday afternoon. Neither will the Cavs’ offensive success. They both are going to be pushing the pace early on, so the first quarter total is where I’m looking at.

The Pacers are already averaging 31.6 points in the first quarters of this series so far and the average first quarter combined score so far through three games is 62.7 points.

Obviously, the matinee start is going to hurt the start of this game some, but this isn’t your ordinary Sunday afternoon game that NBA teams are usually sluggish for. The Pacers are definitely not going to be sluggish with their backs against the wall, but as long as Cleveland stays focused and with their foot on the pedal, I like the first quarter over here.

Through three games in this series, these two teams have a pace of 98.8 in the first quarter and over 100 in the first halves of this series. Therefore, even with it being a closeout game, expect a faster pace early on, with what should be a higher scoring first quarter and half for you NBA picks.
