Analysis

The Knicks are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs but head coach Jeff Hornacek is taking the opportunity to shake up his roster and give the bench brigade a chance to contribute. In the Knicks' latest outing, a 108-104 loss to Minnesota but getting the cover as six-point home dogs, Hornacek removed starters Emmanuel Mudiay and Courtney Lee in the second half and substituted Trey Burke and rookie Frank Ntilikina. The pair combined for 28 points and demonstrated that Hornacek will not exit the regular season with his head bowed. Recently, New York has gone 2-3 straight up but covered on the NBA odds board in four of those five contests.

The Wizards will wind up in the playoff mix but where they land is anyone’s guess. Currently, Washington resides as the No. 6 seed in the East but if they continue their lackadaisical performances, they could wind up as the No. 8 seed and face the Raptors on the road in the opening round. Washington has gone 2-4 straight up over their last six and has covered the number just once over that span. In their last game they lost to Denver 108-100, which proved to be another money burner for those who backed the Wizards as one-point home favorites in their NBA picks.

If the oddsmakers want to give us double-digits against a team that has shown little heart and determination over the final stretch of the season, then we will take it. Expect New York's starters to be looking over their shoulders as Hornacek has delivered a message that he will play his best players -- depth chart be damned. Grab the points with New York and cash a ticket.

Analysis

Friday morning, I wrote that the Celtics were getting too many points, despite their injury woes, in their game against Portland that evening and sure enough, Boston not only covered the number but won the game outright 105-100 as eight-point road dogs. However, as I pointed out the Blazers were coming off a tough loss to the best in the business when they lost by four to the Rockets in their previous game and had to cool off sometime after winning and covering game after game.

Tonight is a good spot for Portland to rebound. They have won and covered the three prior meetings with the Thunder this season and OKC could be looking ahead to their showdown with San Antonio, nipping at their heels for the fourth seed in the West, in their next game. The trends point to Portland and the NBA odds board is giving us a generous head start. Back the Trail Blazers +3½ tonight with your NBA picks!
