The Denver Nuggets have won three out of their last four games and look to stay hot as they host Miami at home. Utah continues to look as one of the best defensive teams in the league when they host Toronto tonight. Will Denver in Miami score enough points to get over the total, and will Toronto at Utah be a tough defensive battle?

Miami vs Denver

The last three games the Denver Nuggets have started to pick up tempo as they have gotten back into a good rhythm putting up plenty of points. Tonight they face a Miami team that has been surprisingly better on the offensive end than on the defensive end so for my NBA pick I will back over the total in this matchup. Although these two teams don’t meet very often in their last game back in April they combine for 229 points and I think we might see something similar to that tonight. On the season Miami has been very efficient in scoring the basketball shooting 46.3% from the field which ranks ninth in the NBA.  Denver is starting to look like the offensive machine we saw at the end of last season shooting 46% overall and 39.3% from beyond the arc which ranks them 10th and fifth in the NBA respectively.  Both teams are pushing a good pace averaging about 87 attempts per game while opponents against them are getting up just over 85 so look for this to be a decently fast-paced affair. Don’t look for these teams to step up the defense tonight and get a lot of stops.

Toronto vs Utah

Odds makers have come out with a really low 195.5 total for this game but I like this matchup and look for a good defensive battle and a slow pace. The last three time these teams have met up they been hovering just around 200 points but I’ve a hard time believing they’re going to reach that number tonight. On the season both teams have been playing really solid defense especially Utah though ranking second in the NBA in opponent points per game and opponent shooting efficiency. They also go at one of the slowest paces averaging just 80 attempts per game, while allowing just 83 ranking them last and 10th in those categories depending on how you look at it. Although Toronto under Dwayne Casey have wanted to push tempo over the last couple seasons I think they will have a hard time doing that tonight. As well, Toronto doesn’t shoot the three particularly well averaging just over 30% and ranking second to last in the league in that category. On the other side of the ball they have been tough ranking in the middle the league or better in most defensive categories and I like how they matchup with Utah. Where one team is strong on the offensive side the other team matches up with them very well defensively and I look for this game to be a very tough grind out battle.
