The Miami Heat are coming off a loss after a long winning streak as they travel back home to take on the Orlando Magic. With Miami recently being the hottest teams in the NBA they have been made a solid home favorite, can Orlando stay within the number?

Orlando Magic

Orlando has lost four games in a row and is having another rough season under Frank Vogel. Despite their losing ways I believe they can stay competitive in this matchup as they match up well with Miami. Across the board, Orlando has been very poor on the offensive side of the ball averaging just 99.6 points per game and shooting 33% from distance which rang some 29th and 28th in the NBA respectively.

Besides their poor showing offensively they have been decent on the defensive side ranking in the middle the league in opponent shooting efficiency and field goals made per game. Statistically across the board, Miami is the better team, but again this is about the matchups and Orlando should come in with some confidence considering they’ve already beaten Miami once the season.

Miami Heat

Miami has been one of the hottest teams in all a basketball over the past few weeks winning 13 games in a row until they finally lost at Philadelphia just the other night. Oddsmakers have come out making them a very strong favorite in the spot for such a reason but in my estimation, they have overachieved during this past stretch and should start to come back down to earth for the second half of the season.

Defensively they’ve been getting it done across the board ranking in the top five of the league in most categories highlighted by allowing opponents to shoot just 34.5% from distance which ranks them fourth. It is on the other side of the ball in which I have trouble backing them tonight despite their recent winning streak. Miami still ranks in the bottom half of the league and motioning percentages and rank just 27th in the NBA and shooting efficiency. The number I believe is a strong indicator as well that odds makers do not believe Miami should win this game by a blowout, so don’t expect it.

Orlando Magic vs Miami Heat

Oddsmakers have come out making Miami a -8 favorite across-the-board which looks a little bit low considering their winning ways over the past few weeks. For my NBA pick, I will take Orlando plus the points not for any statistical reason but for the fact that I believe they match up well with this Miami team that can struggle offensively. Expect Orlando to keep this game more interesting than people might anticipate.
