D'Angelo Russell just had the best season of his career for the Nets and the Warriors acquired him as part of the sign-and-trade that sent Kevin Durant to Brooklyn.

Russell helped the Nets make the NBA Playoffs for the first time in four years (5Dimes had them at +300 to make the playoffs) and he was named to his first NBA All-Star Game.

5Dimes set the season win total for the Nets at 32 and with Russell leading the way, they went 42-40 to surpass that number with ease.

The 23-year-old proved that he can play like an All-Star and lead a team and he is constantly looking for ways to improve his game even more, which impressed the Warriors.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "<iframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https://www.youtube.com/embed/dbtbH5uhSIs\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen></iframe>"}[/]

D'Angelo Russell averaged 21.1 points, 7.0 assists and 3.9 rebounds, shooting 43.4 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from beyond the arc in 30.2 minutes over 81 games last season after averaging 15.5 points, 5.2 assists and 3.9 rebounds, shooting 41.4 percent from the field and 32.4 percent from 3-point range in 48 games (35 starts) in the 2017-18 season (his first with the Nets).

Not having Kevin Durant is a big loss for the Warriors but they managed to turn it into the trade that brought Russell. It was a surprising move because the Warriors already have a three-time NBA Champion and two-time MVP at point guard in Stephen Curry and Russell relies on the pick-and-roll, which clashes with the motion offense used by the Warriors.

Russell can't completely fill Durant's shoes but we can project how he might perform this season. Russell was one of five players to average over 21 points while shooting at least 36.0 percent from 3-point range (minimum 600 attempts).

According to STATS PASS, Russell posted the sixth-highest usage percentage in the NBA at 32.1 (minimum 50 games), which means that 32 out of 100 offensive possessions for the Nets ended with him shooting the ball, turning it over or going to the free-throw line.

Since Russell hasn't played alongside another All-Star over the past three seasons, he has grown accustomed to controlling the tempo but he could see his usage percentage drop as a secondary scoring option for the Warriors (third if Klay Thompson returns down the stretch following his ACL surgery).

Last season the Warriors led the league with a 56.5 effective field goal percentage (eFG%). This stat slightly differs from field goal percentage by adding extra weight to 3-point shots.

Russell's shooting ability gives the Warriors a backcourt that features three of the top 10 shooters in terms of 3-point percentage last season (minimum 500 attempts). Stephen Curry led the NBA at 43.7 percent from beyond the arc, Thompson was third at 40.2 percent and D'Angelo Russell was eighth at 36.8 percent.

Over two seasons with the Nets, Russell shot 11 percent more 3-pointers while playing with another point guard. Defenses are usually quick to contest Curry and Thompson, so Russell can make an impact through plenty of catch-and-shoot opportunities from beyond the arc. I think people are writing the Warriors off way too early.

Golden State Warriors Regular Season Wins
(Courtesy of BetOnline)

Over 47.5 wins -130

Under 47.5 wins +110
